April 7, 201511 yr Right We have the players to push for it, needs tweaking, need a rock solid centre half with pace, we need a nutter in midfield to baby sit the youngsters and we need a goal scorer, 3 players that's it Easier said than done though, getting them sorts of players - I agree with the sentiment that we're probably not a million miles away, once everybody is fit
April 7, 201511 yr If we get two more wins this season and finish on 55 points we're probably 20 or so points off the play-off positions. Which leaves us needing to convert 7 losses into wins or 10 draws into wins roughly next season to compete for those places. Doesn't matter where those wins come from, home or away, but clearly our away form is the one that needs improving or has the most room for finding those extra wins. I don't think that is completely impossible but it will require luck going for us and our key players staying injury free. It will also require a squad with more quality in depth. Liam Trotter for example doesn't look good enough. So we need proper midfield players and quality back ups. Right now it does to me seem hard to imagine going from where we are to that sort of a side but then again football changes very quickly and hopefully we will for once have a good summer and get some luck. I've seen someone say that the top sides are all average. I'm not really sure what average means as it is comparable to what is around them. But look at Watford's side and the quality they have in that squad. They're by no means certain of going up but are packed with very very good players at this level. Vydra is just their third choice for example. Derby who are struggling a bit of late signed Bent and Tom Ince on loan. They are very good players at this level IMO. These are the sorts of teams we will need to find a way of matching and beating and competing with next season. They might be average but I still think we've a way to go to have a squad that resembles these.
April 7, 201511 yr Thinking back to the 2000/1 play off season our away form was shit hot 14 wins, our home form hasn't been that bad over recent years just a few silly draws
April 7, 201511 yr How much will the teams coming down have in parachute money?? Money is not the be all and end all in this division. Have a look at the top 10.
April 7, 201511 yr If we get two more wins this season and finish on 55 points we're probably 20 or so points off the play-off positions. If we finish on 55 points, Lennon's ppg over the 35 games he's been in charge, would have given us 66 points over the course of the whole season. The average number of points required for the play-offs over the last ten seasons is 73. So on that basis we're just 7 points short...
April 7, 201511 yr Ive realised that over the last 3 years. Just wondered if it was miles more than we got.
April 7, 201511 yr Watfords front 2 have scored 39 between em. Our teams scored 50 between em. Brighton scored 55 goals in total last season and made the play-offs.

Champions guaranteed

For me that stat is biased. Personally I think we can finish top half next season and if we get a good start who knows where that can take us. Edited April 7, 201511 yr by ex_midlandwhite

For me that stat is biased. Personally I think we can finish top half next season and if we get a good start who knows where that can take us. If it's biased, it's biased against him, because he won't have to start next season by sorting out the mess he inherited. Hopefully he won't have to cope with the injury problems we've had this season either. Even so, of the current top six, we drew with Wolves, and lost narrowly to Watford and Boro. Only Derby and Norwich have outclassed us. Of the two other teams who could make the play-offs, we also beat Brentford and should have taken a least a point against Ipswich.
April 7, 201511 yr Boro and Watford finished 12th and 13th last season which shouldn't be far off where we finish. I wonder if they thought they were a million miles away. A lot will change this summer Nailed it Edward, nailed it. Glass always half full in the Ratwhite house

April 7, 201511 yr Hopeful it is then, got to be to get us through the summer. Having swallowed the hype over Cuntybollocks & Freedman though I still think our problem will be holding onto this management team rather than them not being up to it. COYW

Having swallowed the hype over Cuntybollocks & Freedman though I still think our problem will be holding onto this management team rather than them not being up to it. COYW The biggest problem is people expecting too much of any management team IMO. Without the resources and tools managers can only do so much. Lennon I expect will make the best of what he gets but whether what he gets is good enough to challenge, will be a different matter.
April 7, 201511 yr Nailed it Edward, nailed it. Glass always half full in the Ratwhite house full off piss though
April 7, 201511 yr I also believe we will go up next season. Lennon is a winner and he can turn us in to winners too. Coywm
