I also have to agree that Vela is not the finished article that everyone believes him to be - he's been around the first team setup for the past couple of seasons now.

 

I'm actually more impressed with the impact that Walker is making than either of the other two.

Vela had a lot of responsibility on Saturday as the person who was going to work hard and put the tackles in. I don't think anyone else was going to do that in a midfield with Bannan and Eidur. That's a lot for a 20 year old against IMO the best team in the league. I think we will only see the best of Vela if he plays alongside someone with a bit more experience who can put his foot in.

Regarding Clough sometimes it only takes 2-3 games to decide a player has a special talent and ZC is one of them.

Clough was born on the day that Heskey made his debut for Leicester at Loftus Road (and Holloway was in the QPR team).

Forest away was a joke of a game and nobody came out of it with any credit; we had 2 players stretchered off, one sent off, Twadzik or whatever he's called as a ridiculous fullback and Heskey as centre half for part of the game. To judge Vela by that game is ludicrous.

Vela has the technique, pace and mentality to go to the very top if he continues to develop. That is a big IF mind....he can tackle, he can pick a pass, but needs to learn a fair bit and also work on his upper body strength.

Clough certainly has a lovely touch, good feet and an eye for a goal, but we have seen very little of him; his size and lack of pace may well work against him and flair players often make it or not due to "streaks of form"....if his doesn't come at the right time, he could just as easily be a Mark Davies as a consistent top player. He's also just had a relatively major injury early in his career to add to that example.....

 

I genuinely hope not, as I agree the boy has great talent - but so do so many of that type of player that never make it.

Agree with the last paragraph.???? Not sure your of your appraisal of ZC lack of pace and wasn't just judging Vela on Forest he's failed to deliver in any match playing CM but do agree regarding needing to improve upper body strength thankfully he's young enough to do that and really hope he develops into the player he's been hyped to be.

ZC isn't a slouch but think one of his strength his that he's as quick running with the ball as without it. I hope I am not giving the impression I don't rate Vela I think he's got potential but not sure he's anywhere near to holding down the position of lynch pin in CM.

Love seeing our own kids come through its beginning to remind me of the kids who came through during that golden period in the 70s when Reid, Sam, Jones, Whatmore came through the ranks in the end they propelled us back into the top flight a few years later. It's early days but s repeat of those golden times would be amazing.

It certainly would, and is what we need as a club going forward, whether to be the nucleus of an exciting young team or bringing in major money that helps us strengthen in areas where we're lacking for a promotion push.

 

The paper that published the list of the top seven young players outside the Prem (was on here somewhere last week)didn't have Clough and Vela much apart, 1 and 2 in that list from memory. Clough does exciting things but his lack of size is an issue in this League and he'll be as much of a marked man when he's back as he was that night against Reading. Vela hasn't 'been around the first team scene' for very much of the last couple of seasons at all, was long-term injured then farmed out to League 1 by that great judge of talent D Freedman

 

Considering he's been asked to learn a new role, played far more games on the run than at any time in his career and in a team that hasn't been any great shakes, Vela's progress has been pretty good in my eyes. He's got better at the defending as the weeks have gone by and when he does come forward can find one of our men short or long pretty regularly. He's had his not so good moments but Clough's highlights have also been tempered by occasions where his lack of experience has cost us possession in bad areas and goals as a result.

 

As you say though Mounts, hope they both do really well for us, and young Walker, and many more besides, would be great to see, it's already been the bright spot of this season for me

Vela is a strong runner but I'd not describe him as quick at all. Yes he's not bad on recovery but he's certainly slower covering ground than say Bannan is. Noticeably slower.

 

I do think Clough has pace. Agreed that his ability to run at pace with the ball is critical but he is quick in general.

I think walker has potential; no doubt a sweet left peg.  his decision making will improve with experience; something that appeared to have been addressed by bannan (screaming/pointing/arm around shoulders- a message from above? future captain?) was it he who shit out and deflected the free kick in?  let him learn this season, esl booboys need to keep it their pants.  ref was a cunt for booking him though.

 

personally feel vela and clough are incomparable in terms of attributes; zc is there to provide an impact, jv to be more assured.  given the purpose of the formers role, its only natural we rave about him sooner. 

 

neither have failed, both provide promise, and are developing as well as could hope.  both have promise to have distinguished careers, should their progression continue.

 

back to the point, overall, we pushed the form team of the league all the way.  a massive improvement to earlier in the season, when it would've been over with 20 mins left.  hand on heart, we knew the season was over once the powers succumbed to the toxic atmosphere that polluted the place.   

 

two home games lost.  both within the last five mins, against the form sides of the moment

 

bigger picture, we are improving.  we are safe... if nl can experiment now learn his preferred side/formation now and into pre-season, we may find ourselves with an extra 20 pts on the board.
