Even Merkel is saying that if she had her time again she would act differently.

Not the kind of citizens we want in the West.

Australians solved their boat people crisis. Stop them sailing, stop them drowning. Simple and effective.

Aye, but some of your lefties are still irked by it, like this lady:

Ok so in a nutshell;

They spent a billion saving a zillion. Bargain.

She reckons they allowed high numbers in (who they actually chose to let), in which would have been on the basis of 'what can you offer us'.

She also reckons these people have better educational standards, maybe they're not drinking petrol.

At the same time their economy blossomed.

Safe to say, controlled migration has quite a few merits.

Who listens to fucking lefties these days? Responsible for most of the lunacy we see everyday under such headings as 'political correctness'.

They've been allowed to fuck up the world for far too long and we appear to be going through a period of necessary readjustment.

In the particular case down here, the red rags had hundreds of boats arriving per year, thousands in camps and hundreds dying at sea. The Aussie tories got it down to a maximum of three boats a year and dozens in camps with next to no deaths at sea. I know which one I prefer and if the social conscience set had to agree after a prolonged period that this way is better. Of course, when they had power, they had neither the will nor the backbone to disappoint their pressure group allies.

It's strange how we both see the world diametrically opposed viewpoints. In my eyes - the centre right has been the dominant force in Western politics for the past 20 years at least and it has monumentally fucked things up.

Well further back than that if you like Casino. The point I'm trying to make is that 'the left' is continually blamed for all manner of ills despite not having been in charge (in this country at least) for decades.

Not sure the problems are purely as a result of party tendencies. Political correctness that Bolty refers to seems to have crept in and has grown ridiculously as politicians of all persuasions have been reluctant to call a spade a spade (now see I was reluctant to write that even though its a long standing saying which sort of sums it up).

Political correctness isn't an exclusively left wing preserve, although I accept some of the more whiny ones do tend to come from that side of the spectrum.

I'd love Alf Garnett sitcoms and Jim Davidson Stand routines to make a return to prime time TV on Saturday nights.

Piss the darkies right off that.

What the fuck is 'political correctness' anyhow? My idea of it is just not being a rude fucker...

If somebody's doing no harm then they don't deserve different treatment.

For me it's just feigning outrage where there's not much to be outraged about. Especially on someone else's behalf. Or needlessly pandering to somebody else's sensitivities.

This show was about as politically incorrect as you could get, cant see them doing a re make of this anytime soon..

I can't believe it's only in my lifetime programmes like that were stopped being made.

It happens, one might argue if we weren't coming from an era in living memory where there was p*ki bashing, gay bashing, nig-nog jokes on prime time telly etc. that folk wouldn't be so overly sensitive to it and tiptoe around accordingly.

For me I just apply it as in not being a twat, if you wouldn't say sommat if a person of the minority was present then don't do it at other times...the last one I'm consciously trying to knock on the head is using terms like m0ng or spaz, which sometimes slip out, but certainly wouldn't if I was around someone disabled.

A white russian bear, it's a wonder they didn't suffer a racially aggravated mauling.

Diametrically opposite in lots of ways pal.

Politically.

Geographically.

I have hair.

Still buy thee a pint any time though  :D

Well you need to buck up your ideas then.

I see it used as a tool to suppress vital debate on important issues like immigration and, taken to its utmost point of ridiculousness, there are those on the hard left who want manholes to be renamed 'personholes', references to the colours black and white kept to a minimum etc.

I've got plenty of hair - just not necessarily in the right places! :-)

My Dad is disabled. He calls his blue badge his 'spaz card'.

I get what you're saying though - political correctness being a natural antidote to insidious racism. It's just that some people's radar seems over finely calibrated :-)

I think the words 'spaz' and 'idiot' have evolved somewhat.

If I heard someone say "Dave is a fucking idiot" I wouldn't assume Dave is disabled in any way, just numb.

That said I like others wouldn't use it in the company of someone with disabilities, unless I knew them and knew they wouldn't be upset by it.

I sometimes refer to my lad as acting like a "spaz" when he does something totally nobish. Like Barry says wouldn't say it in inappropriate company. Not sure it will go down too well though if he repeats it to his mates.

A lot of these 'personhole' type stories are either total bollocks or isolated incidents - usually involving the professional 'insulted on the behalf of others' rentagoons that Kent refers to.

I recently read about how commentators had used a story about lottery funding/taxpayers money being used to teach asian housewives to play hopscotch. This was used regularly to support the old 'loony left/political correctness gone mad' trope. The fact of the matter was the group was called 'Hopscotch' and actually involved in assisting battered wives escape their situation...If you swerve the papers it's surprising how many of these 'Baa Baa Blacksheep Banned' or 'Oilriggers ordered to use personned' stories have such little affect on our personal lives imo.

Finally (now brevity's gone) - I don't reckon it stifles debate at all, in fact practising a certain and reasonable amount of it allows one to speak up on things being 'pure of heart' so to speak, it would (and does) undermine anyone's standpoint on immigration if they regard 'calling a spade a spade, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, ho ho' as some inalienable birthright.
