For me it's just feigning outrage where there's not much to be outraged about. Especially on someone else's behalf. Or needlessly pandering to somebody else's sensitivities.

And, in other news, loony lefty councils have banned fairy lights this Christmas, as they're dually offensive to both Muslim and Glgbtnbs minorities.

A lot of these 'personhole' type stories are either total bollocks or isolated incidents - usually involving the professional 'insulted on the behalf of others' rentagoons that Kent refers to.

 

I recently read about how commentators had regularly used a story about lottery funding/taxpayers money being used to teach asian housewives to play hopscotch. This was used regularly to support the old 'loony left/political correctness gone mad' trope. The fact of the matter was the group was called 'Hopscotch' and actually involved in assisting battered wives escape their situation...If you swerve the papers it's surprising how many of these 'Baa Baa Blacksheep Banned' or 'Oilriggers ordered to use personned' stories have such little affect on our personal lives imo.

 

Finally (now brevity's gone) - I don't reckon it stifles debate at all, in fact practising a certain and reasonable amount of it allows one to speak up on things being 'pure of heart' so to speak, it would (and does) undermine anyone's standpoint on immigration if they regard 'calling a spade a spade, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, ho ho' as some inalienable birthright.
