Really? How many first world European countries have they travelled through? Is our asylum somehow superior to that of France?

Personally if it was me then I'd try and claim asylum somewhere in the South of France of Mallorca if I was on for a fresh start

 

However I can fully understand some of them wanting to join friends and family who may have settled in the UK already so they have a support network

 

I'm not comfortable with us using the English Channel as an excuse to take in no refugees, got to be a half way house option

 

I'd take ten refugees for one of our shit bags who isnt contributing to society, I favour a swapping system, asylum seekers for our bone idol idiots. At least these refugees have something about them crossing continents with next to nothing

Every time I see media of the camps I see hordes of fit young well dressed  men and women of mostly African or Middle Eastern descent. I consider them to be "economic migrants"  who do not wish to stay in France as the work permits and ID requirements are more stringent. In the UK these lovely fellas can disappear into the black economy.

 

If you take in your "10 refugees" please can you ensure you house them nowhere near me ta! 

If a person is granted asylum in the UK, then their family (wife or husband and children) can join them relatively quickly and with little fuss - in other countries, specifically France, this process is a long drawn out bureaucracy laden affair.

 

Regarding the 'fit young men' massing on these borders, firstly most of them are fairly average looking, nowt to write home about, secondly, if most fleeing war etc are working on the principle that one (of a family) travels and gains asylum, the rest then follow, given the fraught and dangerous process, surely you'd send the best equipped and able to handle themselves.

 

That Exodus on the BBC was a good watch and informative, although those who've made their mind up already would probably dismiss it as lefty Beeb 'propaganda'...

 

As a somewhat related aside, I've a mate who's slightly to the left of The Khmer Rouge, anyhow he thinks the BBC functions solely as the tool of the capitalist pig system - it's strange how folk view this institution depending on their political persuasion...

It also showed him being joined by his wife and kid in the UK after he was granted asylum.

 

I also wouldn't say any opinion of France as one of the most overly bureacratised and officious nations on Earth is 'utter bollocks' either.
