Aircon (Gender) Wars

Featured Replies

Saw a story on Sky UK News this morning suggesting that these battles are commonplace in UK workplaces.

Been having them for 10 years at least here. Women always cold, blokes too hot. Some Scandinavian research has apparently arrived at a conclusion that blokes are comfortable in a shirt at 22 degrees Celsius. For a woman it has to be 24.5 Celsius. Simple really - set it at 22 and get the woman to put another layer of clothing on. We can't wear less.

One thing I'll never understand though - these flatdicks complaining in offices seem to be perfectly happy stood in a nightclub queue on a winters night wearing the fashion equivalent of half a handkerchief. How the fuck does 22 Celsius in an office bother them (or do they just like complaining)? I think we know the answer to that one.

I have known this phenomenon. I used to be in an office full of women (ranged from 34a to 38d at the most pendulous) and it used to be a nightmare. They used to be putting their coats on while sitting at their desks complaining about the cold.

My own personal favourite of this theme, in the domestic setting, is the 'central heating on 30c and all the windows are open' - it gladdens my heart and fills me with joy to see that.

Fatties in offices always have a bit of a sweat on and a fan on their desks.

This, every fecking day I'm in our office. It causes more arguments than anything else.

Yep, here too. Women who go out together for a smoke, come back in and automatically amend the aircon, that grates on me.

Women in the office are soft Cunts when it comes to putting the air con on. They need to man the fuck up.

Blokes bitching about aircon settings in the office what a bunch of fannies.

Aircon is an unnecessary luxury for gays of both sexes.

agree

It's only men that smoke where I am.

And the best way to get one over an up himself office worker is to put the temperature to one extreme or the other.

Air con? Fuck that, heating's on here.

Yeah everybody's getting it the wrong way round. The women don't want the aircon on - they're always cold. Is that not the point or am I missing something?

Air conditioning involves conditioning the air i.e. changing its properties. It doesn't mean only cooling it - it could be just heating it. A full system would cool the air (to below the dewpoint temperature) to drop moisture and then reheat it to supply air at the correct temperature. The air would be delivered via some form of terminal unit such as a constant or variable volume box, or a fan coil unit. Or the tempered air could even be delivered by a chilled beam system.

Which is fine and dandy until some selfish tit opens a window.

We can't open a window in our office none of them are openers so we rely on the aircon to keep the temperature reasonably comfortable. I can live with anything up to 24 degrees but 30 is taking the fucking piss. The ones who complain about the temperature in the office don't complain about the air conditioned temperature in the shops in Meadowhall that they spend an hour plus in every fucking dinner time. Maybe because they're moving around and not sitting on their idle arses moving only from their desks to the fridge

A female employee recently left our place of work for a so called "bigger" firm to broaden her horizons, well that's what she told us. (she had her own office, with a window and fan at our place) She lasted 2 whole weeks at the other firm, the main reason she left and asked for her old job back, which she was fortunate to have back, was that she was fed up with the "air con wars" at the other workplace, as there were nine of them working in one room.

Thing is, they blow out hot or cold air until they get to the ambient temperature selected. When they've got it on 30 and somebody turns it down because it's like working in the black hole of Calcutta located in Date's seventh circle of hell they moan about the 'cold draught' ! It's working it's bollocks off to get down to a temperature that we could all live with in the first place! So they turn it up when nobody's looking and off we go again. If I have to work on a metal roof in 90 degrees in full safety gear I suck it up because there's fuck all anybody can do about it. I don't see why I should be writing the subsequent quotation with sweat trickling into my eyeballs. Just leave the fucking thing alone!!

Most setpoint adjustments only give you plus or minus 3C from the base setpoint. And in some buildings, you can twiddle with the adjustment as much as you want but it won't actually do anything - but if the user thinks that he or she is changing the temperature, then they're happy.

I'd rather be cold than hot as you can always put a fleece & a pair of socks on.

Not in my buildings they can't. These days Part L and suchlike mean you have to account for energy usage. Having opening windows would cost the building owner or user a fortune.

There must be 80+ people in our office and it's a constant war.  I've learned to make sure I've got layers to pile on.  Doesn't help being underneath one of the vents.  I can handle that, it's the passing round of germs that pisses me off.  If anyone has a cold, we all get it.

Some cunt put it on this morning, I'm fucking freezing.
