Town Centre Latest

Just had a meeting on Churchgate. Sad to see the Bolton News offices empty. And in a week or two the Travel Counsellors building opposite will be empty. Another 200+ people spending approx £20 per week on parking and lunches in the town... plus whatever other services they spend their hard-earned on - all being lost. Very sad state of affairs.

When will it get better? Should these empty offices be turned into apartments?

The Food Hall has opened at Bolton Market. Had a mooch around. Didn’t buy anything but it both looks and smells good. Various stalls with a variety of foods and a small bar.  I’ve said previously, t

Especially as there’s a budget card shop opposite banging cards out for almost nothing.

Didn't Brian Robson own / part own a chain of card shops at one time?

He was. Birthdays was acquired by Clinton’s around 2002/3.

his business link was, i think, limited to bennys nightclub

birthdays sponsored bury but wood was a dirty red

him n robson often had business lunches in la tama, ainsworth

eneded in the early hours many a time

If driving around Bury, any office buildings with blue window frames are Ronnie’s.

The Bolton News offices being vacant is sad. And the Travel Counsellors building across the street will be deserted in a few of weeks. Another 200+ individuals are losing money per week by spending about £20 on parking, lunches in the town, and any other services they may need. a really depressing situation.

Perhaps someone could drive white60 odd to this thread to the point I was making on the politics thread and why his anger is understandable but probably pointed in the wrong direction.

Folk who wash just order a moonpig

Folk who dont wash, go to the 50p card shop over the road.

Internet has killed town centres.

Fuck town centres

The Mrs l likes personalised photo cards and I can have one delivered the next day with out having to get dressed

Shops, and the 'high street' in general have brought it on themselves.

They can't expect people to order on line and come into the shop as well. Knock on effect is, or will be that smaller shops, cards or pasties or butty shops don't get passing trade. Town centres are fucked.

Half of Bolton TC needs levelling. What to do with the space is beyond me, a mix of housing, green space and offices maybe?

I don't know but it is far too big and inconvenient for folk to bother going anymore.  The train station is the opposite end to where all the investment has been which doesn't help.

A short walk to the station!

Crikey are folk that lazy, especially if it was revamped with decent housing and some nice independent food outlets for brekky on the way?

Folk are unfortunately. Not me, I was brought up on mum parking on the furthest out car park available because it was cheap or even parking on a side street and walking into town come rain or shine.

Worst thing they did was the market hall revamp, sure it was rough and ready in the end but it catered for everyone pretty much. I am sure that could have been dealt with better but I am no expert, just giving my thoughts on why I hardly ever go into town anymore.

Aye! Joined this place when I lived in Blackrod but then moved to Bracknell and then Winchester when I think something weird went on with logins so ended up with a new name, I think that's why anyway.

Been living almost in the shadow of the stadium again (Adlington) for the last 16 years. Still miss some things about Winchester though, it really is a nice little city but like being back (almost) home.

Not been and parked in Bolton town centre for years but as a young man if i wanted to be in town i used to park just past the Nav on Spa rd, was free and always spaces, never took a car on a night.

Later years i used to park up near where  there was a pub called ?? Later it was called Mcginlays, can' t remember if that was free or not.

By the 90s i doubt i would have taken a decent car into town and left it😞.

Leave it as a permanent filming set up.

I had a walk through town today. The whole of the Town Hall Square was fenced off for filming. I did ask and apparently, Ewan McGregor was filming (can’t recall name of film but something like) A Man in Moscow

Probably an adaptation of A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles.
