Gartside had been on the Board for five years before Rioch came.

He also introduced ED to the club (By begging for money) and appointed BSA, who I agree must get major credit for the good times.

Give it a few days and we'll have Gartside responsible for the good times under Rioch as well as the great times under Sam.

But the three relegations of course were down to the poor management of McFarland, Todd and Coyle.

You have to look at gartsides stewardship as a whole and on that basis he has been very very successful. He nor any other chairman non owner can predict when the owner stops putting money in that's the owners prerogative.

'Very Very Successful'? Jesus Christ. Once Big Sam went, judge him on that. He is the highly paid chairman and if his only plan was to rely on Eddie putting money in forever and a day, what does that say about his stewardship? Pile up the debt, it'll be reet. Cheers for that Phil, Thanks for leaving us in the state you did.Great Job, all the real fans understand that.

Gartside was very successful. Hmm. I take my hat off to your shit.

And the rioch / Todd / BSA era is completely discounted - only judge gartsides entire stewardship based on the last 4 seasons - no business can run when a massive source of income has stopped and there's a good case for all the managerial appointments made - hindsight is a wonderful thing

4 years we have been out of the Premiership, it was his job to structure the club not to hemorrhage £1m a month!!! Whatever has gone before, whatever ED has lent us has been done to death, but losing £12m a year with a squad as dross as ours is amateurish.

The current situation sits squarely with PG and he has overseen the current debacle and rapid decline of our club...

The current situation is difficult to defend but I'm just saying reviewing his tenure as a whole would say he's done wonders for the club but if you're only as good as your last week in charge it ain't looking good - depends which appraisal you want to take I'm in the whole tenure camp

In my opinion Ultimately it was the Coyle appointment / not sacking him that was the downfall..... However someone posted an article about us the other day when we were 5th or 6th under him playing the type of football many (including me) craved for! How many were saying it was a bad appointment at the time or indeed prior to the semi final?

The freedman appointment was strange for me and many others....

Lennon at the time seemed a master stoke

Fine lines

coyle did well with mostly someone else's squad once he assembled his own we were utter wank in fact that's a recurring theme gradually our squads have got shitter and shitter under successive managers depends if u blame that on money or not

Gartside had Fook all to do with Rioch, Todd or BSA, he was on the board but not Chairman.

He became Chairman about the same time as Brett Warburton appointed BSA.

BSA made Gartside. He lost him & it's been downhill since.

You can put a FACT on that!

I mentioned a while back that I'd read Gartside wasn't the one who got us Allardyce.

The expert on everything Malcolm told me I was wrong though :)

Wasn't Gordon Hargreaves chairman when Bruce came in?

We were on fire for a while under Coyle, remember he was even touted for the then vacant Liverpool job.

Not quite sure, even now, what went wrong so drastically. Yes, we lost Holden (who he brought in) and lost Cahill, but it was probably down to poor signings, lack of depth and some bizarre team sheets that have become our trademark ever since and did Coyle no favours at all. The sticking plaster of Sturridge probably hid a few sins too.

Anyway, all ancient history. We looked alright under Freedman for a while, Lennon looked the man when he first arrived. Ultimately we have a lot of baggage and I fear the worst for Lennon and whoever comes in anytime soon.

Looking more and more like we are cursed at the moment

I really do think you could bring anyone in and they would get found out

Not sure where the bottom is but I hope we hit it soon

Last time it was division 4, time before that division 3, hope this time it's championship.

Hitting the bottom while in the Championship as been my big hope. Its looking like a forlorn hope. I can sit here thinking being in the third tier might galvanise us and put us back on an upward curve. But I thought that in 1983.

But, like me, Mounts, your head is telling you otherwise.

And when you think about it, unlike the 80s, the bottom nowadays is way way down. A seamless downwards spiral to the North West Counties League.

There - thought I'd cheer you all up on a dull Sunday.

It's called humanity, no one is forcing you to join in.

I've always said gartside has done a good job regardless of his health - despite our current league position look at what our club has now and what it had 15-20 years ago it's night and day - he gets no credit and all the shite it's nonsense he's made mistakes yea but on balance done a very good job

Anyone who thinks relegation represents a new start & 'the only way is up 'scenario is a deluded fool.

Anyone who thinks relegation represents a new start & 'the only way is up 'scenario is a deluded fool.

We all thought that with the drop into the championship, doubt anyone is now in this camp, we must stay up at all odds, give some of the good young kids to mature into the team and take us forward, don't want to be scrapping back up from below the championship.

It's called humanity, no one is forcing you to join in.

Didn't you wish something not very humane on the pervious chairman? Apologies in advance if my memory is wrong
