August 15, 201610 yr Agree with all of that except the 'pies' bit. Minced spinal cords/brain tissue/assorted gristle and sinew in gravy wrapped in pastry? Fucking heathens. I'd argue that their pre-packed pies are better than ours Mrs Mac > Ginsters - but we have the superior independent local bakeries. I'm sure I remember reading that it was because their minimum meat content was roughly twice what ours is?
August 15, 201610 yr Read that topless pics of that swimming presenter were shown in some tabloid. It's disgusting, gutter press have no shame. Can anyone if you nice people post the pics for verification purposes please?

August 15, 201610 yr From lane 8 it was ridiculous. Johnson sounded genuinely happy his record had been beat. No. It is only ridiculous because nowadays the favourites on previous round performance are seeded into central lanes. You are forced to run your own pace without reference to your opposition, but if you are capable of running a lot faster than they will the likelihood is that you will run a little slower in you know you are ahead. MJ made a ridiculous comment about him running the second half of the race faster than the first, but my estimate was that he ran through 200m in about 20.7. He is the fastest sprinter amongst the quarter-milers, having run sub 10 for 100m and sub 20 for 200m. Just a glimpse of what Bolt could have achieved if he was not so lazy - he was made for 400m.

August 15, 201610 yr i love it, don't want it to end I read your posts and imagine you wearing Rio 2016 merchandise from head to toe waving a union jack
August 15, 201610 yr I read your posts and imagine you wearing Rio 2016 merchandise from head to toe waving a union jack i've got some union jack boxers, i will send you the photo in a minute in other news our lads into the semis of the badminton and we've a women in bronze medal position in the hammer throw
August 15, 201610 yr Bronze medal for Burnley girl (Blackburn Harrier) in women's hammer throw, breaking her British record in final round to move up from fifth. A great advert for ballet dancing.
August 15, 201610 yr Just a glimpse of what Bolt could have achieved if he was not so lazy - he was made for 400m. Would it be possible to train for all three distances (100M, 200M & 400M) - I don't know if the training regimes are any different. Also, if you could, would it be practical to run all three events in a major games, with heats and stuff?!? Anyway, lets be honest, everybody is interested in the 100M....the 200M and 400M less so

The Polish lady who was in the lead with record throws.... wouldn't wanna meet her down a dark street late at night.

August 15, 201610 yr And the long jump as well. Not sure why Bolt doesn't do that as well. Part of his talk after London 2012 was that he would do the LJ in Rio. Of course he didn't because that would involve far more dedication than he was ever likely to contemplate. He was a world junior star over 200m at 15 and (given his height of 6'6") he was seen as a logical 400m superstar.
August 15, 201610 yr I guess you woukd earn more money for less effort doing the 100M though. And to be fair, he has been quite good at it
August 15, 201610 yr The Polish lady who was in the lead with record throws.... wouldn't wanna meet her down a dark street late at night. Burnley lass 5'7", under 12 stones. Polish Lady, 5'10" but under 16 stones.
August 15, 201610 yr I am equally enraged by this. Are you still enraged? Have another look, just to be sure
August 15, 201610 yr Author Are you still enraged? Have another look, just to be sure I've had 2 looks today. The second look was less furious but still had an undercurrent of passionate vigour
August 15, 201610 yr Would it be possible to train for all three distances (100M, 200M & 400M) - I don't know if the training regimes are any different. Also, if you could, would it be practical to run all three events in a major games, with heats and stuff?!? Anyway, lets be honest, everybody is interested in the 100M....the 200M and 400M less so Yes to the first Qn, no to the second. Essentially the 100m and 200m are much the same, with a strong emphasis on the start. Those less consistent in the start, or more comfortable with cruising near top speed would tend to focus on 200m. Only those prepared to do a significant volume of repetition speedwork over 150m, 200m and 300m could contemplate serious efforts over 400m. Herb McKenley was an example of someone equally competent at all three. He was, need I add, Jamaican. In 1947 he was the world's fastest at all three distances. In London 1948 he was fourth in the 200m and second to a fellow Jamaican in the 400m. Unfortunately the second leg runner in the 4x400m pulled a muscle, so he didn't get to run in the final. In Helsinki 1952 he was second in the 100m to an American and second in the 400m to a different fellow Jamaican in a virtual dead-heat.It is reckoned that the combined margins of his losses was under 10cm. In the 4x400m he ran a 44.6 third leg (over a second inside the then world record for the individual event) to bring Jamaica into contention for what proved to be his only Olympic gold. So far as I am aware his treble of third places over 100m, 200m and 400m in the 1951 Pan-American Games is the highest standard competition at which that treble has been attempted.
August 15, 201610 yr Malcolm, if daf doesn't win the 200 is she going to revert and dominate the heptathlon?
August 15, 201610 yr feel free to offer a counter argument then Whilst the investment is obviously crucial, 2012 meant that it could be pulled in with a justification behind it. If we hadn't had the Olympics and been succesful the funding wouldn't have followed, hence, legacy. Fair enough, hand in hand, but the Guardian's sniping isn't something that I would quote
August 15, 201610 yr So feel free to quote the Murdoch press, hacking the phones of murdered children. Not sure how relevant that point is. Murdoch press only really useful for pictures of tits and bad injuries
