Grammar Schools

Not sure if this has been brought up but I can't find it if it has...

Where do we all stand on this??

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about, when I went to school (1995-2000) we were split into different sets for subjects based on ability. I.e maths set 1-7 (1 being the best and 7 the worst) so that you didn't have someone really good being held back by being in the same class as someone poor at it (and visa versa)

Surely grammar schools are just the same but grouping by district as appose to just within a school?

Also, as it stands to get into the best high school in Chorley (St Micheals) you have to go to church every week ffs. Same with the best primary schools. It doesn't matter if your Catholic, Jewish, Muslim etc etc as long as you attend every week and get your stamps

They are only doing this as they know a parent willing to go to church every week will also put a shift in teaching at home

I'd rather have an 11+ system / Grammar schools than the current system of faith taking precedence

From you that's an absolute feather in the cap

And it was very accurate from my school days

Grammar queers

Bit of history for you matey. When BCGS moved up Breightmet next door to Breightmet Secondary, the first few weeks were 'grammar queers', 'puffs', 'posh cunts' etc. All sorted with a big face off at the bottom of the amphitheatre hill (overlooking Yates' farm) where t'cock of BCGS  (Al B) knocked seven bells out of their cock (PD) and we ran the show after that.

Football wise, we always had a decent team - our PE teacher played for RMI and was a bit if a hard nut himself.

Who was it, I can vaguely remember a Mr Gethin?

BCGS moved in 1966 , it was 4 years later when I attended .There wasn't much integraction between the two schools but when it did kick off it as dramatic.

I also recall on at least 3 occasions when one on ones took place out of site of the main building. The give away was the hoards of kids watching from the top of the bank.

Remember also what started off as a massive snowball fight at the front of the school which turned nasty when snow was swapped for stones.

PE teacher was knocking off the girls PE teacher.

Mr Townsend , geography was a right bastard. Thinking back I reckon he batted for the other side.

Another teacher was sorting out the head girl.

The Biology teacher ended up running a dodgy gynecology clinic in Fleetwood and got sent down.

On the plus side the head master ,Mr Roberts was legend.

Townsend was my form teacher and was a cracking bloke- better not to cross swords with him though.

Mr Grimshaw was your biologist- as featured on here six years ago!

That was a much bigger chomp than I hoped for

Haha! Some memories there matey.

Firstly, to answer TMGJ's question, the PE teacher was John Valentine. Right back for RMI and a ruthless, hard bastard. Regularly clipped my ear for being lippy but we got along fine. I like the no nonsense types - you know exactly where you stand. We had good school teams under his guidance.

Now then, Embankment - that cunt Townsend! Filthy DMB, greasy haired, lanky twat of the highest order. I fucking hated him and loved it when a history teacher joined us called Sid Farrand who was a mad City fan and had a knack for winding Townsend up. Hated his geography lessons, the fucker had an annoyingly good ability of being bang on target with the blackboard duster which he used to throw at me with increasing regularity. Being a strong proponent of the mighty BWFC, he didn't like me one little bit - especially my whistling of certain tunes which were Lever End classics relating to a certain air disaster (distasteful now I accept but at the time, perfectly acceptable behaviour to red interlopers moving into our territory). Besides the fact that I went home with chalk dust in me barnet, he regularly messed up my Mod bouffant but that was solved later as per the next paragraph on Paddy Roberts, Townsend had a speech impediment where he added a 'g' sound between 'r's' and 'n's' like at the end of Western and Eastern (which became Westerg'n and Easterg'n) and, as those letters appear in my surname it that order, he used to drive me fucking mad with it when I was getting the continuous bollockings.

Paddy Roberts was another arsehole as far as I was concerned. I was the first skinhead at BCGS and he made it plain he didn't like it one little bit. Blamed me for the hundreds that appeared over the following months. Had no fucking idea that half the country had that look then the surly bastard. Couldn't wait for an excuse to cane me and got a couple of reasons over the following months and trust me, the sadistic fucker didn't miss. Always hoped I'd bump into him after I'd left. Never happened.

I think that the PE teacher getting a regular rogering must have been Miss Winterbottom? She loved teasing pricks that one. Used to make us lads stand around the trampoline whilst she gave us exhibitions of trampolining in her pleated white micro skirt and white knickers (it's her I blame for my long lasting preference of white knickers on tanned birds). I swear that if the springs had all gone on that trampoline, the canvas would have been held up with a couple of dozen stonking teenage erections! Really pretty face too but flat as a fluke in the chest area.

Must have calmed down a bit with the Breightmet lot in your time. In my time, it was good for keeping your moves tuned ready for the terraces at the weekend!

Are you sure that's not a transcript from a ever before seen episode of Grange Hill? :)

Are we not missing a massive point here?

Faith schools delivering better results might, just might, be because the catchment area is often more affluent and the kids in those same schools have a greater number of parents who through their school life have encouraged and nurtured their development, rather than getting off their tits in front of the telly whilst those same kids eat space raiders for tea?

Townsend

" stay behind lad " You knew he was going to crack you with that black slipper. Absolute bully.

Came unstuck one afternoon, we were put on buses to leverhulme park.On the way back he got stroppy with a massive man mountain called Dave Lee. Gentle giant. Townsend tried to manhandle him,his glasses fell off. Result one of the finest Nuts right to the bridge of his nose.

Miss Winterbottom moved onto short blue skirts by the time I arrived.

Exactly the point I was poorly trying to make.

I HOPE THE NASTY OLD GIT STILL SUFFERS WITH DOUBLE VISION FROM IT.

Miss Winterbottom moved onto short blue skirts by the time I arrived. THE FILTHY TEASE. WE HAD A BIG LANKY LAD WHO FAVVERED PLUG OUT OF THE BASH STREET KIDS AND WAS THE ULTIMATE JOHNNY SQUARESVILLE. HIS ONE SAVING GRACE (IN THE EYES OF THE LADIES I WOULD IMAGINE) WAS THAT HE HAD A WEAPON WHICH WOULD FRIGHTEN A POLICE HORSE. SHE HAD A PARTICULAR LIKING FOR HIM BUT, AT THAT TIME, HE WAS SUCH A DRIP THE OPPORTUNITY IN FRONT OF HIM  PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE REGISTERED. I'LL BET THE JAMMY GIT MADE THE MOST OF IT WHEN THE PENNY FINALLY DROPPED.

Sound a bit envious there Bolty!

Being Mr. Average, I suppose I was  :D

Pretty sure I would have done a lot better than him mind (unless the porn industry found him!).

Can't recall anyone being obviously well endowed. That being said it wasn't until Mrs Hatton and Woan appeared that any notable wanking tackle was available

I wouldn't have put you down as one of the shy smelly kids who conveniently managed to avoid a shower after P.E.

In Bredbury there's a faith school and a standard secondary school right opposite each other. In theory would they have the same catchment area? If so, comparing their results would be interesting.

I have a laymen's view from experience of people / schools I know, that the faith thing is actually a thinly veiled class thing, which I think is what Smiffs is saying.

You're right. Wife was telling us only yesterday of her experience with her re teacher in secondary school.

She wasn't christened and when the teacher found out she went apeshit and basically called her a lesser human being because she'd not had water dribbled on her head as a baby. The Witch.

If you can be arsed, do a google with the schools name and GCSE A* - C. Give you the results straight away. If you can be arsed.

Faith as a class thing? Not with Catholics -  us left footers were proper scumbags, Always had the best football teams mind.

Did you check out each other's cocks in the changing rooms, or arrange meetings away from prying eyes to see how hard the cocks of lads from other schools were, like they did at BCGS (Bolton County Gaylords School)?

The catholic schools around me weren't full of Catholics; a good proportion were well meaning middle class types who wanted their kids to go there because they thought they were better

That's why I said it

May not be like that everywhere and/or anymore

Hahaha....if you think you can draw me in with that one sonny, you are sadly mistaken.

Minor victory I suppose in limiting you to a straight to the point sentence instead of reams of stultifying witter.

Aye, more likely to be like that now I imagine.

I'm talking 30 years back. Reckon every kid at our school was Catholic.
