Little Lever is way down the list of backwards places in Bolton.

Withins and horridge are at the top of that list.

Very roughly i make that 55 not living in Bolton and  19 living in Bolton.

FWIW i've counted living in Bolton as just those living in one of the areas of Bolton - ie, H'well/Harwood/Tonge Moor,Breightmet/Morris Green/Great Lever,Astley Bridge etc etc.I've counted The peoples Republic of Horwich,Howfen,Athy,Leigh,L/Lever,Farnworth,Radcliffe etc etc  as not Bolton.

The areas i've counted as not in Bolton are open to debate/question i know.

ha ha :) I left LL in 2000 (B_Blondie it can be done, he he) give or take and never lived there since bar a few stints at my Mam's, mates or brothers gaffs. It was rife then and I would imagine only worse now. I'd imagine the queues for the bogs being bigger than those for the bar in most pubs :)

Still, if you can't beat 'em . . . ;)

Still rife now. Every other 21 year old is dealing, driving a Merc these days. I used to work in the Queen Ann and the Whitehorse age 17/18 and it was a bloody good night out! Only go out every so often now and that's only to Henighans!

I'm with LL district nurses now, the odd occasion I have to help out in other areas in Bolton, mainly up Breightmet, Crompton Way, Tong Moor Rd area it makes LL look like Alderley Edge! Never complaining about 'the village' again!

20 - I live in Bolton.

The qualification is wrong an' all - some parts of Farnworth are about quarter of an hours brisk walk to the town centre, some parts of say, Harwood or Breightmet are fooking miles away (from town).

Anyhow, even places like Morris Green, Lever Edge etc. were villages/settlements in their own right once upon a time.

Little Hulton

Adlington

Farnworth.

Living the dream!

I worked in SK9 from November '87 to July '01.

Living between Manc and L'pool can you suggest a better alternative to BWFC?

I would offer no better alternative irrespective of location :)

The lack of Bolton on my list of homes would suggest this

During my time at the council I worked in all corners of the borough and withins and horridge had some right old sights.

Withins was full of inbred scroaty types kicking off with the lads or wrecking the site of an evening.

Horridge just had right weirdos.

Hmmm- witnessed it myself recently.

You could always do a re-count with your own boundaries.

Farnworth classed Bolton cos you can walk it and omit the ancient settlements of Ye Olde Morris Greene etc :D

Used to sup in them quite a bit.   Last time I went in, a few years ago, about half the pubs had shut!  Always had a decent night in the village to be fair, but I think if you're from there or grew up there you'd see it differently than someone moving in from afar . . . like say, Radcliffe :)

Pretty decent Whites following in LL too!

My Dad's from Little Lever, the family used to own the garage.

Can't say I've ever been myself, which is pretty bad.

The one on Church st?  Burned down a few years back iirc

Aye, if you grew up in Bolton :) the old canal part, Ladyshore and Moses Gate are quite nice places to visit i'd say.  Juts be on the lookout for the odd long-haired greaser, sniffing petrol - oh wait, that was more fashionable circa '85/86 ;)

Farnworth, Astley Bridge, Westhoughton, Liverpool, Manc, Prestwich (which is bury despite what the locals tell you)

Ah - District nursing in Tonge Moor and Crompton Way. That was a placement I won't forget! :-)

I lived in Prestwich for a bit and have never lived in Bury.  have never lived in Bury.  have never lived in Bury  have never . . .

Since the closure of the ranger service many of these places are now going to the dogs.

Canal dudes have done some good work on the old locks at nob end but insufficient money will see work never completed.

The Meccano bridge was supposed to be the start of bigger improvements along the canal.

That's a shame.

I watched a you tube vid of some folk doing up the old locks at Nob End a while back.  Shame the canal went the way it did as that was quite an impressive bit of engineering (as canals go ;)

I read that the canal burst its banks back in the day and there was never enough interest/money to build the walls back up again.  I must have walked down that canal 100s of times and only realised a massive collapse on one side, just before you get to Kearsley locks, after reading that!  To be fair, it was pretty overgrown by then . . .

I bumped into Fred Dibnah doing a bit of filming down there once and he reckoned there was a real possibility of them rejoining part of Bolton canal to the national network again.  Imagine that, part of LL being something like Oldfield Brow in Altrincham - gardens flowing onto the docks ha ha!

Was/is that temporary or is it still there?

Was/is that temporary or is it still there?

Still there. Only built about 3yr ago one of the last jobs I worked on before leaving the council.

Still there.

They can't take it down.

Someone's lost that little spanner.

:D  I'm very surprised someone from LL hasn't woken up to the biggest Meccano set ever seen one xmas morning . . .

If they went ahead with the plans the giant tools are set in the floor next to the bridge for easy disassembly

Harwood ,next door to MickyD

Ladybridge .( attended school with Andydee)

Deane

Ladybridge

Wingate's

Westhoughton.

I don't think I was MickyD yet. Good to talk at the Bury game.

The preservation folk have cleared the vegetation from the section where the breach occurred on two occasions and there's been talk of rebuilding it but as you say costs will never be met( unfortunately). Each time new trees etc grow back undoing the initial work.

Water taxis have now started in Manchester, and unless a business case for something like this can be made then a charity is not going to have the funds to sort it.
