Not in Crawley Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 King Gizzard out with another album this week - if you like metal with a twist of fun this one is for you Quote
green genie Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 QotSA saved me from a night with Elton! Hoping Mr Grohl is in town to drum with them and help Axl out on vocals, although maybe Leftfield at that slot. Might mean Foos are Churnups rather than Pulp, which clashes with Courteneers. Quote

The main stage line up is fucking awful this year. Cat Stevens probably the highlight. Quote
tshape Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Went to Bearded Theory festival at weekend and it was perfect. Brilliant festival that gets better every year. Having such a good time there definitely softened the blow of missing out on Glastonbury for the first time since 2011. Still wish I was going of course, even though I'm not mad on the lineups for the main stages. Quote
ErnestTurnip Posted June 5, 2023 Posted June 5, 2023 I know it's hardly groundbreaking stuff but the new Rancid LP is half an hour of grinning from ear to ear. Quote

Not in Crawley Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 I get served that post all the time and all I can think is......Red Hot Chilli Peppers? I'm not sure that there was loads and loads more better music, it was just a thing where major labels started to really push into the alternative music scene and so it crossed over and got more exposure that supported already big bands like Guns N Roses and allowed Metallica's more radio friendly sound to crossover. It was a dint of the time in a reaction to the over stylised late 80s in both fashion and music. Same thing happened with Punk after the Prog Rock and Disco domination of the 70s. Just as many great albums released every year - its just they don't get as much attention due to timing, bad luck etc and also album release dates aren't as important due to streaming - the reason they were all released so close to each other was in the post summer market so they could get the autumn US tours up and running. And just to reiterate.....Red Hot fucking Chilli Peppers. Quote

Site Supporter Spider Posted June 6, 2023 Author Site Supporter Posted June 6, 2023 The sound quality from cassettes was dismal. The type of people paying £25 for one probably try and start Mexican waves at concerts. Quote

Not in Crawley Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 And? Grohl is layered to fuck on the albums. Now Axl....there's a singer. Quote

There was a singer. alas, he simply couldn’t go like that forever so he’s struggling these days. In the 90’s, there was no better rock voice. Apart from Chris Cornell, obvs. All fading better than Vince Neil, who sounds like karaoke at the Balmoral. Quote
Site Supporter Spider Posted June 6, 2023 Author Site Supporter Posted June 6, 2023 (edited) Regardless, I don’t subscribe to a singer having to be note perfect. It’s about the way the sound, how they work with the music. Ian Brown. He sounds like he’s having surgery when he sings but somehow still sounds right for the job. Same with Shaun Ryder. Even Bob Dylan with his bland, dreary baritone drone probably suits that mid-tempo, featureless skiffle he churns out. Edited June 6, 2023 by Spider Quote

Vince Neil is brilliant - I'd pay to watch him perform Kickstart My Heart now! 😁 Quote
