Saw something about this on news yesterday. They class as “watched” any subscriber who tunes in for longer than 120 seconds. I wonder how many took over two minutes to decide it wasn’t for them and put Coronation Street back on.

To be fair to Netflix they changed their model to be closer based on competitors. For example, iPlayer ranks its viewers on searched titles. The idea of two minutes is that it is then classed as a delibrate choice to press play, rather than an accident.

To be honest though, Netflix doesn't need to do any of that. The only reason linear TV does is to attract advertisers, so dependant on your budget you can select the number of TVRs you have so if you get a slot between Coronation Street or Doctors...

With a model based on subscribers, advertising the amount of people watch something is largely needless.

An advert in the middle of 'Doctors' would be worth umpteen times more than one during the interval of an episode of 'Coronation Street'.

The exposure would be huge in fact.

Superb series this has been, it has been really upsetting at times yet funny in others.

The missus makes a very brief on screen appearance, think it was last weeks episode or could have been the week before.
