We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

  • Like when we went up from league 2, we needed tried and tested players from that specific division/level to deal with the task in hand. Doyle and Sarcs etc. We need exactly the same in this divis

I've seen nothing to suggest CMG can be anything more than somebody who makes fleeting sub appearances, or Vertu Trophy appearances. I'm guessing he's fairly cheap though, so may be worth keeping around if he's no trouble

Not a chance a player we signed from the champ for actual money is cheap

We have two keepers on trial.

CMG, I believe, was on a free transfer despite what all the news reports say

He was apparently on £4k per week at Luton. I can't imagine we gave him a payrise

Schon - I’ve just never got it, but again as a back up option he’s fine (it’s the fee that gets me on him).

I think there’s a player here, but he’s never played in his correct position. As an attacking winger, he was asked to play wing back. Not suitable.

Now we’ve switched to wingers, but he still seems to be struggling because we’re using inverted wingers. When I watched his highlights reel, as he signed, he always seemed to attacking down the left.

I fear that he may not be as effective on the right, where he’s expected to play.

On the question of CMG, I thought Schon was much better on the right than CMG was on the left, against Barrow. I didn’t see the Hibs game, so can’t comment on that.

Regarding CMG’s supposed versatility for various roles, this doesn’t sit well with me. I prefer specialists over jacks of all trades.

Schon's brain goes to mush when trying to process what he wants to do in the final third playing as a winger. He's very busy, always wants to get on the ball, pretty good actually getting the yard needed but has the shot of an 8 year old. Will be an alright utility player who can cover a bunch of positions on the left/right most likely, bit of an expensive one though seeing as we paid supposedly just under a million for him. CMG is pretty simple, obviously being given the chance until January to show something unlike Dan/Lolos & then he'll enter the final 6 months of his contract where SS makes a decision on him.

Being made of biscuits Schumacher hasn't had a proper chance to look at what CMG can offer, Lolos and Dan have proven themselves to be shit. There must be something in those few glimpses SS has liked otherwise he'd be with the 2 stumps no fucker wants.

So despite the fee reported by thumb head who was told by the club is bollocks.

4k a week isn’t peanuts. Sadly be hard to find some other mugs willing to pay it for him

i don't think our club ever release financial details

Seems a strange thing to make up figures for the paper.

the club may not release anything officially but plenty of football in community, tea ladies, shop staff leak stuff given the messages that get sent round

Why would those members of staff know the exact figures of the fee?

My point was the club is leaky and figures of 300k were readily accepted until people started wanting to pretend CMG was the solution to all problems as he’s shown something (admittedly nobody knows what that something is as he’s done nothing at all)

i stopped believing or caring about fees a long time ago

and anybody taking em as gospel is watching too much skysports

lets say CMG was 250k, signing on fees, his wages, loyalty payments, etc etc etc over his contract probably dwarf that

hence, don't get hung op on fees, kids

Can I still think he’s rubbish though or do I have to believe in these flashes of brilliance and promise that have occurred since he was injured

You can think he's rubbish when he's managed to amass more than 6 appearances 😉

FWIW I'm kind of with you. Seen nothing from him and he's (currently) a waste of wages for what he's given. Injuries, or ability.

A players biggest asset is his availability. If you're always injured you're of no use to anybody, even if you're good (which I'm not sure he is)

course you can

fwiw, i think hes far better than we have seen but as above, he needs to be fit

Correct. Like I say I don’t want him to fail but let’s not pretend he’s been of any use since joining.

Well Ladies and Gentlemen that concludes the 24 analysis of CMG and relevant arguments.

Stay tuned for more micro analysis and debate about the next particular player.

Can’t wait for the season to start. With our season effectively ending at Easter, it feels a long time since we had actual football to discuss / entertain us.

Anyway, do you think Vic has a future with us once he’s over his injury? He’s shown glimpses if that’s a useful criteria.

I forget he’s still here. Hopefully someone is into that sort of thing and wants to take him on. A heroic return to Burton or something like that.

Yes but he's not a number 9 and might be of more use with actual wingers
