He only played 20 mins and looked fine to me. He's looked good in the previous friendlies too. Suppose we should just pay his contract up and get rid though because we're so loaded? We're in League one mate.

He didn’t look that good at Barrow.

Well Schu’s been true to his word so far in that he said he’d give CMG every chance to prove himself before deciding if he fitted in so maybe that’s why he’s featured in every game? I like Carlos and I’m not sure if he’s done enough so far to convince anybody but if I’m honest he’s done no less than Schon and Tutu have and I’d probably prefer to lose one of them first as CMG is more flexible and does have the ability to change games which I don’t think the other two really do.

When has he changed a game?

I agree with you, no question he needs competition/back up, like everyone.  As you say he's currently got no competition, and that has to change.  I just wouldn't bring CMG into the conversation, or stats, because the reason Dalby will start isn't because he scores goals or that he's better than x or y player, its because there's no alternative in his role/position.  CMG could score in every game for the next month but Dalby will start as soon as he's fit, unless we sign another similar type player (as opposed to a Charles or Collins type).

CMG was brought up separately in the thread. It was nothing to do with Dalby until somebody asked me why I think CMG should start but Dalby shouldn't (I hadn't said either of those things).

However, goals are relevant when it comes to CMG because so few members of the squad have any history of scoring regularly in the Football League. And that's why I think he might end up getting time on the pitch - we know Tutu and Schon have little end product, Gayle is a total mystery and Duberry is a kid.

So the two aren't linked and it's two largely separate conversations happening in the same thread. And I guess to summarise my opinion... Dalby = there are reasons to be hopeful about him, but not sure why anyone would think he doesn't need serious competition. CMG = knowing where the net is might prove to be a valuable trait given the rest of the squad.

I do not expect CMG to start many league games next season.....Gayle and Cozier Duberry are first choice out wide

And it seems Mcatee is first choice in the 10 role

I would say Desmond, Schon and Randall are in the back-up positions

No room in Schumacher system for CMG

Not a chance we will not bring a forward in before Stockport

I've said in 3 posts on him today.

I want him to do well but he's shown not one glimmer of hope.

And I don't think he played very well yesterday.

I didn't say rip up his contract.

Is that OK?

Think there have been glimmers to be fair, but I know I'm splitting hairs a bit.

He was starting to look decent before his injury at Wigan.

He looked good v Brum.

He was probably pick of the crop first half v Orlando Pirates.

Not much in 2 years, but I think there's a bit of talent there. Also think SS is giving him a last chance to see if he can actually bring it out of him.

One of them where if he goes I won't be arsed, but if he stays I'll be optimistic we might finally get a run out of him.

And more importantly, we need an actual transfer to stop me posting shite.

It will be decided by SS what happens with CMG if he stays or goes .

Weirdly, I sort of agree. Carlos lost possession nearly every time he got it yesterday and was in the defenders pocket unfortunately. However, I think there’s still a chance of loaning a striker before Stockport as we clearly need one with Dave not being much more than a distraction, Warren and Dalby injured and both Dan and Vic being out of favour - I reckon Feargal and Schuey will push to bring one in.

Ss has already clearly said in an interview that we will sign 2 strikers and one will be before the start of the season.

Folks knickers are in a twist for no apparent reason

CMG is absolutely shite

League 2 player is being kind

Problem with that is the latter depends on someone wanting to buy him

If not, he stays

Whoever they are, you should tell them.

On top of this, the statement about the 2 signings were made before we got a bid of £1.2 million in for Tommo, and maybe £300k for Forrester (unlikely but not impossible). That could change things as i dont think the club were expecting it. It's a decent amount of transfer money, future wages, and room in the squad.

Still got McAtee uptop,

People panicking over Collins going..

I think we want rid of CMG, Schon and Tutu and need another wide player, a striker, a centre mid and a right back. Plenty left to do

I like TuTu & think he has something to offer.

Problem is he's not a full back, he's not a wing-back. He's a winger ... & we've just brought two of those in.

Similar with Schon really.

CMG is decent, just almost permanently injured

I genuinely still despair at what the previous guy was thinking.

There was one- an away game in the season before last.

Can't remember the opposition- Cambridge maybe- but things turned around in the game.

That maybe being damned by faint praise of course. :)

Agree with all of that.

Tutu’s a great option as a wider pool of wingers, being asked to be a winger rather than a full back / wing back.

I wouldn’t want to be relying on him as your starter because I didn’t see enough last season to suggest he’s consistent enough, but I’d be delighted to see him coming off the bench with 30 mins to go to go at a tired full back or in the starting line up for a few games if one of the starters is injured.

Schon - I’ve just never got it, but again as a back up option he’s fine (it’s the fee that gets me on him).

CMG - again, as a back up option then I’m alright with it, but he’s not been able to prove that he can stay fit which isn’t helpful.

We might keep them all, but if we were looking to reduce down to 4 then it would be CMG that goes for me (although I wouldn’t be arsed if it was Schon).

Correct, it was Northampton away when GT got sent off.

Evatt brought him on, changed the system and we were much better with a different formation (and 10 men).

I’d personally be content to see the back of all 3 of them but if I had to keep just one it would be CMG purely for his flexibility to play a number of roles. We also have Conway who as a left wing back could I think cover that side if needed with CMG down the right. Schon I’m not seeing anything and Tutu apart from being an injury risk seems to be very inconsistent. I think we can do better strengthening other positions personally but getting rid with the contracts they’ve got wouldn’t be easy and that’s the main problem we have.

So today’s sermon from the BN makes no specific mention of looking for wide players although it says that with George leaving, “we need to strengthen midfield” and i don’t think George could be considered as a wide player by any stretch of the imagination. The focus according to Iles is on a goalie, probably Broome and strikers and Schuey wants a striker in soon so there’s time to work with them before the first game. Whether that would be Toshevski, Kenny or someone else time will tell.

I’ve always said GT is decent. I’ve never got the abuse he gets. Any negative comments for GT have been tongue in cheek. if saying I don’t rate him helps you feel better about making up CMG’s ability then go for it

Horwich was the poster who reckoned Tomo would never make it as a professional footballer

I've seen nothing to suggest CMG can be anything more than somebody who makes fleeting sub appearances, or Vertu Trophy appearances. I'm guessing he's fairly cheap though, so may be worth keeping around if he's no trouble
