Listened to the interview with SS and Fergal am I right that when he mentioned players he stated we had 1 striker in Dalby ? No mention of McAtee very interesting.

McAtee is seen as a no10 which means technically he's a midfielder.

FFS. This isn't Behind The Stands. Most folk come on here to read bullshit rumours and conjecture, with the odd bit of accurate stuff thrown in. It's boring as fuck reading your personal squabbles.

We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

It hadn't really occurred to me before but its great that only 3 go down. Out of 24.

Prem is 3 out of 20, L1 is 4 out of 24.

We need to finish above Lincoln, Cardiff and 1 other, hopefully there will be a basket case club.

It’s because of Zog1 we didn’t win the league

Not sure what to expect as we will have a different team by August/September but it will be a long time before I am ever going to aim for 21st in the championship.

I do know what you're saying, but there was a spell under Evatt when I would have settled for 21st in L2, looking up at FGR and Harrogate. We're 2 divisions above that now, we've come a long way.

WBA and Blackburn were doing laps of honours finishing above the bottom 3 last season.

The market is on its arse at the moment, but there are signs of it picking up.

Have you told FH and SS who to sign

Listening to yesterday's q&a with shouey and fergal, it all seems very tight re targets. With the total lack of rumours on here I wonder if anyone on here is itk anymore?

Listening to SS and FH from their interviews today it seems forwards and wingers are the next few through the door. From that i take it SS will be once again going with two wingers once more. FH also hinted that we will explore the continental market where we will get better value. Hence the appointment of his chief scout from his time at Bruge.

Watson it seems was bought with one eye for the future and we would have signed him whatever league we started this August. Interesting few weeks coming up

If those comments about Watson are entirely how he feels, then presumably we have other midfielders on the radar.

The level he has been playing at is higher that what our current ones have been.

They may be seen as capable of stepping up and preferred starters, but I'm far from convinced that is the case.

I'm intrigued to know how the pitch to the player went, as I doubt SS convinced him to quit the SPL with "I see you as one for the future..."

Can't help feeling SS is taking pressure off-particularly with his comments about Conway.

One would hope they’re a bit more positive talking to incoming signings, because no player that's ready to take us to that next level wants to hear they'll be either sat on the bench or that there's a risk they'll immediately get relegated, which is what talk of the bottom 3 level budget will do. On top of them talking up loan players (the only 1 better than our existing players in that position last season was ACD and maybe CBT) so this talk of how superior loan players are is silly and is honestly a bit of an insult to any player we sign permanently this year.

Good shout.....Watson had many options and i doubt any were to sit on the bench. If he starts well i can see him being in the first Scotland squad and his stock and confidence will rise. The comment from Harkin was a bit strange[we are looking at strikers and wingers next]

We certainly need them but they are the players we normally sign at two minutes to go on the last day of the season because teams are reluctant to let them go.

I am hoping Kenny and Kelly N'Mai are the two we are aiming to bring in and maybe a our big signing on Deadline day

She was tasty in The Beverly Hillbillies to be fair.

I think if you look at the squad as it stands today, keeping us in the division would be an achievement for SS's coaching and Fergal's recruitment. We've sent back most of our best players and the next worst team in the division finished 20+ points ahead of us last year.

I'm not saying we can't hope for more, but it's a big job with not much margin for error.

21st at least nailed down before the last weekend would do, then see where still being a Championship club takes us in terms of building for the season after

The challenge will be as much one for a lot of our fanbase, staying with it when they're watching a side that doesn't win anywhere near as often as they've been used to

You're right, noticed that this week, only L1/2 clubs doing anything really, one or two Champ today but not much

Mainly because it seems SS is sticking with the same system and i cannot see us getting better. That is a brave call from SS to stick with the same system and i am am not going to come on here and slate him because he has earned to right to play how he wishes.

Fergal and SS may have somebody we have never heard of and i am more than happy to bring that person in instead of N'Mai

Those two Kenny and N'Mai are the only two i have seen us linked with

Better than an above average League Two winger? god i hope you're wrong, if that's the limit of our reach we might as well accept relegation now.

Guarantee most of the players we sign will not have been mentioned; and when it does inevitably leak, the deal will have already been finalised.

As i said i have no clue about wingers we are being linked with. I will be happy if we do not go down that route....ACD is one every one is hoping we can get across the line.

We will see in the coming weeks

£4m in cash to spend, and limited on wages due to these new rules it seems, we really have been shafted a bit by the timing of it coming in.

Going to be a tough slog this, scraping around a bit in Europe and for cheap deals, got a CB/LB lined up and apparently a striker coming on on loan next week that's the Burstow replacement in the squad.

Could also work in our favour as other clubs will have been shafted worse

Edited by jmjhb

At the risk of starting something, didn't these rules already exist just in a slightly lesser form? And nobody had really noticed?

My guess is that with a bit of creative accounting we'll be largely unaffected.

I don't understand that.

Why won't it work, when compared with any other system?

So long as our players can be effective in whatever system we use, then that's all that matters.

Flexibility will be another feature, clearly, and judicious acquisitions will allow that.
