  • I could, but it sort of defeats the point of a forum if nobody offers an opinion.   You, of all people, should grasp this point.

Irish comedian Sean Hughes has curled his toes up

Kinell.

51 is no age at all.

Very sad bloke by all accounts, and was in hospital for cirrhosis of the liver.

Used to love Sean's show.

It's not appropriate at this time but when you look at recent photos of him he has the look of an alky on them.

Saw him live a few years ago and he was smashed from the start of the show, drinking pints of wine throughout. Still fucking hilarious. Sad he's gone.

Same

Cane out when I was an early teen and I remember it being one of the first things I watched, thought was "dead funny" and my folks wouldn't have got. If they'd ever watched it which I doubt

He was class on buzzcocks during its best era too

I even tweeted him when we got Dougie as he was a big Palace fan

Proper devoed :(

Really?

I don't get how people grieve over people they don't know or haven't met.

All the RIP bollocks is just that : bollocks

Yep, really.

Teenage years are funny ones. Sometimes folk on TV / the radio have a profound effect on you. More than "real folk".

I absolutely loved Sean's Show and it's stuck with me

As did he when he was also in my favourite TV show of my later teens and early 20's - never mind the Buzzcocks too.

I'd be upset if my Uncle died but I've had Sean Hughes "in my life" about 20 times more

"I didn't know him but Cheers"

Nah, I understand what you have written, but I still don't get it.

And although they too are strangers, I found the death of 500 Somalis more distressing this week.

Thoughts and prayers are with you, Traf.

Many of us were upset when nat went. He meant a lot to us, but didn't know him personally.

I'd be a bit miffed if Wendy James went suddenly.....

Of course.

Every rule has its exception. :D

Correct.

If you don't understand why some people feel affected by the death of someone they didn't personally know, you could just say nothing.

yes, there definitely exists a bandwagon of meaningless platitudes

"no-one should go the match and not come home" is another that grates me.

Excellent.

People who I have never met but who I will be gutted when they die, Dylan, Hetfield, Billy Connolly, Stuart Murdoch, John Squire few others I suppose, the main thing is they all met a massive amount to me in those teenage/early twenties years when you can’t even speak to your relatives! I get that.

My other half was gutted yesterday as she’d interviewed and met Sean Hughes but more than that she worn his live stand up video out when she was a teenager. But she wasn’t crying into her pillow, it’s just a sad sense of the passing of time more than anything I suppose.

I'll be the same when Vic or Bob go.

Yeah and Coogan.

aye, particularly when my mrs says the opposite to me after an away day on the lash

I will be when Bob Monkhouse dies.

How is Bob these days?
