And today the European Court of Justice has ruled that "general and indiscriminate retention" of data for 12 months, under the UK's Data Protection And Investigatory Powers Act is against EU law.

This is the culmination of a challenge championed by (then) Conservative backbencher, David Davis.

You just couldn't make it up.

As we are leaving the EU I'd suggest we just ignore them and take David Davis to the tower to be brutalised instead

Snoopers Charter they call it.  I'm no fan of the OB but I'm not sure keeping stuff on record is so bad what with the current threat of terrorism & the paedos knocking about.

The EU aren't really in a position to advise us seeing as no fucker knows who's where at any given time on the continent.

I wonder if you agree with me that strong men Gaddafi, Saddam and Bashar Al-Assad would have been/are better off left in place to control their undesirables and that we Westerners should have stayed the fuck out of it?

I am convinced the world would be a better place with their iron fists controlling these nasty groups of extremist nutjobs.

I do, but we can't turn the clock back. Whether we learn from it is doubtful, too, unfortunately.

The ogre that is Assad was considered differently when he was a doctor at London's Western Eye Hospital.

His elder brother was then killed in a car accident and he was recalled to understudy, and eventually succeed his father.

Saddam may have been a monster, but he was a secular monster with a Catholic apologist as foreign minister.

That won't happen again for a while.

And Gaddafi may have had a reign of terror, but he didn't allow boats of immigrants to set sail from his coast for Italy either.

Nowadays there is no effective government to stop it.

They do in according the dictionary. But the connotations are very different. I'm not having a pop - maybe you aren't aware of them either. I only know because I noticed a lot of right wing commentators had started to choose that spelling and was interested as to why that might be. It was almost like it was being used as a pejorative.

Apparently to an Arabic speaker the word Muslim means a follower of Islam - where as Moslem means someone who is evil. A bit like ISIS or Daesh I suppose. There's an interesting article about it here.

I just wondered whether it was a conscious decision on your part or if you'd always spelt it that way?

Not a conscious decision from me think I alternate between the 2 spellings in a random fashion with no particular reason.

It's like these fuckers who complain there are too many CCTV cameras knocking around  (there were plenty of them on the radio yesterday, after it came out that Berlin has a piss poor amount of CCTV compared to London) - there should be no problem in stuff being kept, or you being on CCTV if you've nothing to hide.

What is the problem with keeping everything on record anyway?

I'm sure the UK Court of Appeal will recognise that the goalposts have moved.

Davis (who stood against Cameron for party leadership in 2005) has stepped away from the case but Tom Watson (Corbyn's deputy leader) is certainly running with it.

So I'm presuming you'd be happy to have microphones installed in your house recording everything you say? As you say, if you've got nothing to hide there isn't an issue.

Are you not getting confused with wire tapping? Or are you just being a contrary cunt?

No on both counts. If you have no problem with the government recording and storing your general day-to-day online communications because you have nothing to hide, why would you have a problem with audio recording devices being installed in your house? Or even video? If you've nothing to hide, there's no problem, surely? It's a genuine question. What's the difference?

Because they have limited resources and so would be looking at those they have an interest in. Unless you've something to tell the class about your lifestyle or you're being a Narcissist to think the authorities would spend the day listening to you.

I've got no problem with being on CCTV as I go about everyday business - you could pretty much track all my movements via phone and cards anyway, as they need that sort of thing going on to stop / catch them up to no good

no problem with Google logging every search I make, or with all my emails being sat on a server somewhere - that sort of thing can also be used to catch wrong uns

I would not want audio devices recording every conversation i have with the mrs or the dog- whether or not they listen in is irrelevant

nor would I want them to have a video of me cracking one off or getting down to it - whether or not they watch it is irrelevant

if i get caught cracking one off on CCTV again, then fair enough

can you spot the difference?

Not in the slightest. I have nothing to hide either. But you're avoiding the question again. Would you be happy to have audio recording devices installed in your house? And if not, why not?

Is Brexit Secretary David Davis a contrary cunt for fighting against the proposed bill?

I really cannot imagine them putting any in my house. It's a moot point and you know it.

No. Unless you're talking about criminal things with your Mrs and the dog, what have you got to hide? Do you think terrorists only discuss their plans in public places?

Your imagination is irrelevant. If you've got nothing to hide, why not let the security services record everything you do, just in case? YOU HAVE GOT NOTHING TO HIDE. What are you worried about?

Why would they?
