It would help if Madine wasn't so half hearted, the massive fanny

Despite us beating the top side twice and the second side once?

Probably because we're 3rd

Really hope we can get Sameobi back as, despite Jenry's efforts he's just nowhere near the same level. That means Clough really has to up his game from what it's been in the last few weeks.

Despite all the flak Thorpe seems to be getting on here, when he went off yesterday our defence was suddenly a kite more exposed. He does a vastly underrated job IMO.

I can't even be arsed going into how shit Madine is for the umpteenth time.

I agree DazBob - Thorpe keeps things ticking over very well for us. He's not as physical as Spearing so doesn't get the plaudits - but his positional sense is very good.

As someone has said, if we'd got the 2nd goal while we were well on top, we'd have won, but having missed our chances it was always on the cards that Swindon would hit back.......it happens, we've done it !!

Madine - From his all round play, I thought he was possibly our best player........apart from his awful finishing. He doesn't seem to have any confidence in himself scoring, as shown by him trying to lay the ball off when in scoring positions, but with no money to spend it's very, very unlikely we can get better.

I'm not that bothered about an out & out striker ( even if we could get one ) because they can bugger up the balance of the team & their goals won't neccessarily bring better results for the team....I'd rather we spread the goals out through the team & definitely go back to being a big threat from set pieces....yesterday, Spearing had a real off day with his delivery.

I think we desperately need a striker and winger so Clough can move inside because out on the wing he just isn't good enough! I don't understand all this criticism of Thorpe every good team have a player who does the simple things and never stands out , for me a lot better than Trotter.

Freak result saturday however, we need a striker as madine can't score and we need either to get someone in to move the ball around quicker or get someone on the ball who can do that

All this talk of Clough moving inside, if he does then who gets dropped? Vela?

Maybe he could have Henry's place- after all he scores more readily.

Or he could play at the head of a diamond, with spearing and Thorpe behind and derik deeper. Push full backs on a bit.

I don't think being on the left is the sole issue

First 10 mins on Saturday he cut in from there and got alright shots off. He's been successful quite a few times for us drifting in from the left.

He very, very rarely uses his left food and he's not got a burst of pace; without either of these options teams know he has cute feet and cuts inside all the time so can double up and force him into roadblocks.

He's good enough to still create space at times because of his great touch but I feel it leaves him limited so when we aren't stretching the opposition across the park and creating space it leaves him toothless and ineffective

I think people are pushing for 442

Each to their own

I think there's a danger of the baby going down the plughole, here

Nobody can argue we didn't have plenty opportunities to kill the game yesterday

I still have their first down to a rank bad effort from Wilson and even then it was only a deflection that saw it go in

After that they had chances but PP seemed intent on shit or bust, which is fine

Not sure our personnel or style is suited to 4-4-2 at all

I agree Clough should use his left peg a bit more.

Our best football seems when its played on the deck with a bit of positive movement. I keep revisiting that goal where Clough backheeled it to vela. He made a diagonal run from left to the inside and the ball was played through by vela who carried on.

Similarly, Clough's goal against port vale moved inside and was slipped in by derik.

We don't get that from the big lad up top.

Madine needs a partner for me as he's not going to score many. Either that or try Clough with clayton- other teams use a couple of small, nippy strikers with good movement and they arguably cause more problems to Beevers and Butthead than Madine types.

As Eavesy will eagerly point out, if we played Clough and Clayton, the ball would just keep coming back at us.

The defence, and Beevers in particular, go long more often than not, so it would need a complete change in tactics and style.

A bit reactionary to one defeat

I'm also uneasy with 4-4-2

Think the current set up works well, we just need more goals out of the 1 up top

If Bury can get a tune out of James Vaughn at this level (14 goals for a team 5th bottom) then I'd like to think it's not beyond the realms of possibillity that we can find someone up top to lead the line and chip in with more goals per game than Madine

Especially if Sammy ain't coming back as that would hopefully free up some funding

We've scored a number of goals playing through midfield. Two up gives an extra midfielder.

A long ball can also be diagonal for runners in behind.

Its not a reaction to one defeat. We've not kept a clean sheet in the league for a good while and are conceding more than a goal a game since.

We need alternatives to the current plan A if it isn't working.

We have scored a number of goals playing through the midfield - and that is where we're at our best.

However, it's overly simplistic to then say we should play 4-4-2. It also leaves us with which 2 as CM's?

Give Clayton a game up top against Palace his movement is good and it would be a good time to try something different

One option here. Henry is a winger so that's an option too.

I don't see one formation being any more over simplistic than another.

Just need better movement of the ball and with the quality in the team we'll be reet.

We're a little predictable at the moment and teams must continue to evolve.

I once scored a goal just like Wheaters!

In fact, mine was better coz it was in the top corner.

We were playing on that pitch next to the traffic lights at Moss Bank Park.

Corner was taken next to the road, I was centre half that day so was stood just outside the box (not fit enough to make it into the box)

They had a player stood on the post but he didn't even try to stop it, would have made him bleed.

I got mobbed by all my team mates, even their players were cheering :)

I always think about that goal whenever I drive past.

I kid you not, it was better than Wheats!!!

After digesting the result and giving it a couple of days to get over it..... I'm still thoroughly pissed off at that defeat.
