March 17, 20179 yr Are we not having our annual thread to disparage and pour cold water on the celebrations of our neighbours across the Irish Sea and anyone over here proud of their Paddy roots (unlike me, who's actively ashamed and denies them)? For obvious reasons (apart from my shame) I won't be sinking a few pints of the black stuff, will you? Invented by Guinness I believe, about fifty years ago, to boost sales in a slow part of the year. Edited March 17, 20179 yr by Youri McAnespie
March 17, 20179 yr Anybody who still gives a fuck is no better than those cunts who stagger around wearing Guinness hats.
March 17, 20179 yr Author Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel, why should they always get away with it, and the likes of Bolty with his trifle cop a packet? They deserve equal treatment imo.
March 17, 20179 yr Author Look at this c*nt for example, forcing his jollity on some poor unsuspecting Brazilian fella, does he look happy with being pressganged into the festivities? No. If it was some proud Englishman celebrating St George's and brandishing a beachtowel they'd have been tasered before they got within ten foot of the bloke. Double standards. Is there any bigger hypocrite than a man claiming to be the ultimate English Patriot, whilst living comfortably and voluntarily as an immigrant in another country, and having no plans to return? There probably is, but it's a bit fucking rich. Edited March 17, 20179 yr by Cheese
March 17, 20179 yr Author To be fair there's not much choice, if you moved there at ten and were seventy you'd probably still be considered a 'pom'. I'd probably be more jingoistic/patriotic (however you want to paint it) in such circumstances...

March 17, 20179 yr Author To be fair to Bolty it's tinnies of Fosters on ice around the pool and snags and emu steaks on the barbie on Australia Day too, Kent said so anyway...
March 17, 20179 yr As I am fromage free these days, I am only seeing your posts Youri. I was about to ask if you were talking to yourself again but Bolty said I was just being silly. Now then, the trifle and beach towel thing, which seems to provide much mirth and merriment to my Boltonian brothers, was one St. Georges Day celebration of many. At the risk of making their sensitive bellies sore with laughter, it is different each year. Black pudding and county flags last year, black peas, Boddies, Tetleys Smooth and Lancashire Parkin have all featured. The Manc in our office is having his missus make a Manchester tart for this years celebration. The geordie retired before we had to endure pease pudding. We don't give a flying what some bloke from Johnny Fow or Tun Fowt thinks. As you rightly point out, we will always be considered Poms here which is just the way we like it and yes, living away from what will always be home does make one far more patriotic/jingoistic. Better that than turning into a bitter, contrary cunt eh? Oh, and no, I don't celebrate St. Paddys Day and think that folk dressing like leprechauns with ginger minge titfers drinking green Guinness is odd but I would always defend the right of Irish people to do so if it makes them happy. The only interest I have in Ireland can be narrowed down to what happens at the Aviva Stadium tomorrow. Come on England! Edited March 17, 20179 yr by bolty58
March 17, 20179 yr I'm off to a potato party tonight with a load of ex pats! Must differ by country then.
March 17, 20179 yr You've not seen anything more infuriating than thousands of yanks who are 100% Irish for one evening, all because their great, great, great grandad drank a Guinness once. They run around with ginger wigs, wearing kilts, all the stereotypes, buckled shoes etc. Urgh, and everyone in my office will be wearing something green tomorrow too.
March 17, 20179 yr I am going out for a few tonight. My days of being bothered by folk who just don't want you to have fun are long gone. town will be heaving. can't wait

March 17, 20179 yr I'm sitting drinking Guinness for ten hours straight, watching back to back episodes of father ted and reminiscing dreamily about a life of solitude and simplicity on the windswept west coast of Oirland. Or I might not
March 17, 20179 yr slainte everyone...Happy St Patrick's Day! Good to see Youri back to his combative self. Live and let live, life is too short to be angry all the time. Edited March 17, 20179 yr by Salford Trotter

I agree with Big E on this, it's a bit of fun, if you don't want to join in, then don't (I don't bother) - if nothing else it at least gives a little bit of a boost to our beleaguered pub industry for a day. Live and let live and all that
March 17, 20179 yr To be fair to Bolty it's tinnies of Fosters on ice around the pool and snags and emu steaks on the barbie on Australia Day too, Kent said so anyway... How many fucking times???? They don't know what Fosters is down here. Like Neighbours and Home And Away, made for UK (and possibly US?) consumption. They all think it's funny down here. "Thick Poms swallowing all this manufactured plastic Aussie bullshit" Never celebrated an Australia Day yet. Alreet getting a day off work for it though.

March 17, 20179 yr What are the mass beers with you Bolty? Is real ale appreciated or is it cold crisp stuff.
March 17, 20179 yr What are the mass beers with you Bolty? Is real ale appreciated or is it cold crisp stuff. As a few on here who have travelled around Oz will know, each region has its own 'mass produced swill':- Queensland - XXXX NSW - Tooheys New Victoria - Carlton Draught South Australia - Coopers (Pale, Sparkling etc.) Western Australia - Swan Draught and Emu Export (fucking paint stripper - the pair of em) Tasmania - James Boags. Some of the Coopers ales are pretty good and I don't mind Carlton Draught when I am in Melbourne or Tooheys New (& Old - dark) in Sydney. As you might imagine, loads of boutique breweries and there's some good stuff out there along with some real shite. I particularly like White Rabbit Dark Ale in winter but in summer am more of a cider man with a particular liking for Monteith's Crushed apple cider from NZ. Best cider I have ever had. Almost everything down here is served icy cold. They look at you strangely if you even mention ale at room or cellar temperature.
