I was surprised to see Roy 'Chubby' Brown's act is mainly a racist cuntery these days - not particularly funny either, certainly not up to the Bernard Manning levels - now he had timing.

There has to be some irony in having such a ridiculous debate with someone whose aviator is half black man/half gorilla.

 

It was meant to be ironic from the last time this 'debate' was had when many said some black people don't look like gorillas.

 

Clearly Sheek sees the irony but he's obviously a racist as he uses the word nigger quite a lot.

Depends on who you ask. To some, using the word 'black' to describe the colour of coal is 'racist'.

An Asian girl I used to work years ago with used to park her car everyday illegally and stored the tickets up for a month and then appealed the tickets on the grounds that the parking warden was racist and had actually called her a paki and said stuff like park your car in your own country

 

The appeal was fucked off and rightly so as it was nonsense. Nowadays it would probably create a media shit storm

 

I was at a comedy gig of Andrew Lawrence last year and he made a number of jokes of the sexist and racist genres. Funnily enough it was the women in the audience that took the hump (albeit only a few) and two walked out. But some folk off here would find that funny that he had offended them to that point no doubt yet find faux outrage if it was a person from an ethnic minority and say it was unacceptable.

I have an issue with drawing racial lines, yes.   I find it a hypocrisy that such jokes go on without folk flinching but when, let's not say race, but perceived colour, comes into it the same folk get very upset . .

OK, in simple terms, I think a distinction needs to be drawn between use of offensive language with racial overtones (which may or may not be racist) and actual bona-fide racism.

I honestly believe that humour, done well and with the right intentions, is the best way to break down racial barriers.

Good to know I'm not the only one exercising the grey matter, but we seem as popular as a black man at a KKK meeting around here   It all feeds into these subjects touched recently on other threads like terrorism, Islam etc.  The definitions are very important, now more than ever.

 

You can say Islam is bad for example but it would be discriminatory to say Muslims are bad; many don't see the difference.

I've outlined why I have an issue with it - I don't lose sleep over it mind and the 2nd point you make I think I've pretty much echoed that sentiment above.

 

If folk want to assume I'm this, that or deprived of the other then that's their problem. My point is simple and pretty clear.

Chubby Brown is cashing in on stupid, impressionable people - and I don't think they leave his gig with a balanced view of the world, and are more likely re-affirmed in their beliefs they are a bit better, because most of his jokes have that angle, and often most comedy is "funny because it's true", so them that laugh at it, probably believe what he's saying to varying degrees

 

I watched and laughed when I was about 15, probably around the same time I thought the Macc Lads were funny, but you grow up, get a broader, more open view on life, and realise it's not right
