Just so that thickbrown can shout 'bullshit' at the moon again, I can advise that I just flew back into Malaga this evening after representing Australia (all of us 'Poms' apart from one Irishman by the way) in the 2022 Walking Football World Cup at FIFA HQ in Zurich (what a fucking expensive place that is!). Wenger piked it and was a no show so Technical Director Steve Martens stepped in to give us the big welcome. No point in a selfie with yon mon - I doubt any fucker would know who he is - I didn't. If you are interested, England won the over 60's (penalty shoot out against a strong United Nations team!) and Wales won the over 65's. I do have a shocking confession. Of the four goals I registered in the tournament one was in a 1-1 draw with England after telling the squad that if we were drawn against England, I would be giving away penalties and own goals. I am ashamed.

Anyway, because of this absence, I had lost track of the Australian federal election and just had a read. Yes, you are correct London Wanderer - a potential happy result. The clown taking over is an absolute arsehole and, after every fucker knew Labor would get most seats due to extended period of Conservative government (they do it down here too just to keep the Tories sharp) what is laughable is that they look like they may end up with most seats but a hung parliament and have to strike deals with the communist greens and the surging so called 'teal Independents'.  This opens up the possibility of a cash trade in incentive to get rid of our petrol car and buy an electric one (probably a Hyundai Iconiq). These measures are what some of the folk Labor will need to strike alliances with have campaigned for. One term of the red rags struggling to hold a rag tag hung parliament together won't be too bad if we get the car result. The Conservatives would never have done it. Grab an opportunity and ride it til it dies.

Anyway, off to give it some z's now. Fucked after 2 weeks of intense competition (10 day training camp is Spain before the competition proper and played a good few games against local teams down here).

Always remember, better dead than red.

A 10 day training training camp to go walking for three days in Zurich? You don’t need to train to go on a European city break. I presume you mean 10 days of fry ups and Estrella Galicia.

They have Ayr United heritage/connections although their organiser is a Jambo. I mentioned to him that the President of the WF Association of Iberia (just resigned!) is also a Jambo and organised games and the training camp for us down here and now that connection is likely to result with the Scotland team touring down here. All about networking.

I’ve always had decent touch for a big lad, so it’ll suit me if I ever get to play it… mind you when I mention it to lads I’ve played with they say I’ve been playing walking football since I was 25. 🤣

Fair points from all. Thankfully at FIFA the refs were hard on it which is what is required. The biggest problem is players running 'off the ball' as the refs eyes are inevitably drawn to the ball like the rest of us. Clearly a massive advantage in closing a player down if you can run and he must walk. In this Comp, they did not miss much at all.

For those who like to take the piss, my lad is a fit younger fella who does a heavy weights workout at the gym every Saturday morning. He uses a Fitbit thingamajig and records in the 600-630 range at the gym. Came to play in a game of WF in the afternoon, 20 minutes each way, and was astounded to record 617. It is not the 'stroll' you might think.
