It would be better for us, then we could select those who fit our requirements and put a cap on numbers that we can absorb.

An Afghani pilot who worked with the RAF is being threatened with deportation to Rwanda, and the US have had to step in to make sure he's looked after. Does that sit right with you?

Without knowing the detail it doesn’t sound right, surely we can make use of a pilot…. We’ve enough illegals committing crimes we can deport to make room for him.

Looks like all the doom mongerers were wrong. @spiders lot must have left because they didn’t like him.

They were here legally.

Speaking of his disappointment, the pilot said he felt “abandoned” by the UK. He said: “Who are these people who think Afghan veterans are not in danger? They clearly don’t understand the situation in Afghanistan – right now the Taliban are mercenaries, targeting people like me who worked alongside UK and US forces.”

“If the UK are abandoning us again, I hope the US may help,” the pilot said. “Many former Afghan pilots are even flying in the US, they are using their skills, unlike what the UK are doing with me.”

If he’s on about this guy then what he says is not quite true.

He was given a sliver of hope when he was told that permission for him to apply for asylum had been given – this is only done when a US official formally recommends you for consideration. The process in the US, by no means assured, can take months if not years.

Meanwhile, there was huge disappointment when the pilot was told he had been rejected under Arap because he was not deemed to have worked “for or alongside” British troops.

This pilot if the Government have decided he's not getting in, then he's not getting in. I assume there is more to it.

Just because somebody "fights" for the UK, doesn't give them the automatic right to come here

It made it a hell of a lot easier for them.

It made it harder for EU economic migrants to stay.

Reading that article he didn’t fight with the Brits and received a commendation from the yanks. Which would leave you to believe he worked with them. Their process can however take months, even years so he’s sat in a hotel here at the moment at the cost of the British tax payer.

That’s what shouldn’t be sitting right @cheese you’ve got it the wrong way round

Doesn’t matter how easy it is to get here there was supposed to be no jobs, if there’s no jobs then why are they coming?

I don't know, you'd have to ask them. Even without a job in this country, you get looked after. I presume that you're aware of this (we have a benefits system). I don't think you should be able to claim against it, unless you've put in, but successive UK Governments don't agree, perhaps it's the politicians who should be shouldering some of the blame

Last I saw/heard, we had loads of job vacancies, albeit most of them are for low paid jobs, but there are jobs out there

Great reward for those who risked their lives for the UK fighting the Taliban. Cheers but could you stay there and if you get killed that’s tough.

Probably easier if we didn't meddle in those places and cause wars in the first place....

Yes but that is irrelevant now that we have done so and now abandoned some of those that helped us

All's fair in love and war.......

Let's not forget, they were helping "us" to help themselves. It's unfortunate, I agree, but we can't be letting them all in, especially those with spurious claims, as this pilot seems to have

So they’re paying circa 5k to get here to claim £9 a week in benefits. That makes sense 🙄

Who said there was no jobs?
