An Afghani pilot who worked with the RAF is being threatened with deportation to Rwanda, and the US have had to step in to make sure he's looked after. Does that sit right with you? Quote

He said: “Who are these people who think Afghan veterans are not in danger? They clearly don’t understand the situation in Afghanistan – right now the Taliban are mercenaries, targeting people like me who worked alongside UK and US forces.” “If the UK are abandoning us again, I hope the US may help,” the pilot said. “Many former Afghan pilots are even flying in the US, they are using their skills, unlike what the UK are doing with me.” Edited August 14, 2023 by Cheese Quote

We’ve enough illegals committing crimes we can deport to make room for him. If he’s on about this guy then what he says is not quite true. He was given a sliver of hope when he was told that permission for him to apply for asylum had been given – this is only done when a US official formally recommends you for consideration. The process in the US, by no means assured, can take months if not years. Meanwhile, there was huge disappointment when the pilot was told he had been rejected under Arap because he was not deemed to have worked “for or alongside” British troops. Quote
Sweep Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 (edited) This pilot if the Government have decided he's not getting in, then he's not getting in. I assume there is more to it. Just because somebody "fights" for the UK, doesn't give them the automatic right to come here Edited August 14, 2023 by Sweep Quote

Just because somebody "fights" for the UK, doesn't give them the automatic right to come here Reading that article he didn’t fight with the Brits and received a commendation from the yanks. Which would leave you to believe he worked with them. Their process can however take months, even years so he’s sat in a hotel here at the moment at the cost of the British tax payer. That’s what shouldn’t be sitting right @cheese you’ve got it the wrong way round Quote

I don't know, you'd have to ask them. Even without a job in this country, you get looked after. I presume that you're aware of this (we have a benefits system). I don't think you should be able to claim against it, unless you've put in, but successive UK Governments don't agree, perhaps it's the politicians who should be shouldering some of the blame Last I saw/heard, we had loads of job vacancies, albeit most of them are for low paid jobs, but there are jobs out there Quote

Great reward for those who risked their lives for the UK fighting the Taliban. Cheers but could you stay there and if you get killed that’s tough. Quote

It's unfortunate, I agree, but we can't be letting them all in, especially those with spurious claims, as this pilot seems to have Quote
