Unions, blah!

Self interested empty vessels, shouting loudly but doing fuck all.

Not all of them I suppose, but of all the years of membership, only one rep had a shred of decency, and he was bloody fantastic.

The rest, well...

Without unions we'd still be working Saturdays. With dog shit H&S.

No one would argue with that.

Sadly, they are no longer representing the working person in the ways they should and haven't been since the late 60's. They are a political tool - mainly left wing of the Labour Party apparatchiks as we saw through the miners strike, the winter of discontent etc.

Personally, I would outlaw them.

Because you need the public liability, there is always one who says you have not treated them correctly, especially with the female offenders, there are always claims going in for a chance to make a few quid

Did you get paid holidays, sick pay, bereavement leave, paternity leave, overtime rates, company supplied workwear, PPE etc.?

That was almost half a century ago. They've moved on a bit since then! 😁

Why? what has that got to do with being a union?

If unions didn't exist, you wouldn't have had any of those things. So did you have those things or not?

How do you know, have you got evidence. For the record I have been in a union all of my working life, I am now retired and I do not need to be in a union so I save myself £15 a week.

Are you in a union?

Why were you in a union then? It sounds like you enjoyed all the benefits they fought for, but are now turning your back on them and want the ladder pulled up. (I'm not suggesting you should still be a member now you're retired)

Yes, I have been in a union since I started work at 16.

That’s not true.

Quite right I was in a union to reap the benefits of what they fought for, that is why I paid my subs every month, I was a union rep for the POA in the 90's so did my bit of fighting for staff, why would I continue to pay when I will never ever need them

Never mind. Possibly crossed wires. I thought you were slagging unions off when you said you were looking forward to leaving yours.

I've never been in a Union, am I missing out?

Nope. You've still reaped the benefits.

it is silly, and I guess it's probably the sort of thing that Bolty would get upset about, but I'm not sure why Tice has to make a big deal of it.....well I think we actually do all know why, he's keeping his name and party "out there" as much as possible. The reality is, he probably doesn't give a fuck, he just knows it'll generate more headlines for Reform, and will probably get him another interview on GB News.

That's good to know.

To be honest, I've not particular axe to grind with Unions, I don't see them, as some do, as some evil Left Wing bunch of lunatics determined to bring the country to its knees. I've just never needed or been asked to join one, probably because of the industry I'm in.

You wouldn't even have a weekend without unionisation.

I joined one when I first started working but after years of being self employed I am back under a company but they don't engage with unions my level. Fuck knows why. It also doesn't bother me but on the whole I think unionisation is a good thing to protect younger staff especially.

Unions are only as good as the reps at each work place. Some of them at Bolton Council were fucking useless, then if you knew who to go to they were brilliant and would give folk good support.

If they're shit, members cans vote them out at the next election. 🙅‍♂️

I wonder if this is on @bolty58 playlist 😜

Reps aren't elected. Or they weren't at the council

Which union was that?
