But honestly - these roles are such an infinitesimally small percentage of the wage bill - even where they do exist. It's a smoke screen to divert your attention away from the elephant in the room which is chronic underfunding over decades and a threadbare workforce which is about to become more threadbare.

This

Things could go back to the dark ages with healthcare & some people would still be blaming nonsense reasons like ‘diversity staff’.

Deliberate underfunding has caused this. Jeremy Hunt made no secret of managed decline to aid more privatisation.

The reality is we need to properly invest if we want a good healthcare system & improved life expectancy. Preventative is also important. Our shops are filled to the brim with shite ‘food’.

The number of 25-34 year olds claiming sickness benefits has increased 69% in just five years

Something's gone wrong there

COVID has taken out three people I know with their mental health. Two are already dead through alcohol, the other is bed bound with alcoholism. Obviously COVID wasn't their only issue but it tipped them all over the edge.

I also assume many young ones out of uni can't see any opportunities or progression. No chance of owning their own house for example. At one time as long as you could graft you could raise a family, that's not the case anymore for many and I think austerity cuts have exacerbated the problem. We are sociable beings and I think we have lost that connection along the way leading to isolation for many.

Indeed

For many in that age bracket (and a bit older), the social contract has been effectively broken

It’s good to have you back you mate. Hope you’re still on the mend.

I like the new Miami. More interested in finding common ground than an argument.

I think I could do with a stroke 😉

Joking aside mate, my medical incident made me realise there's much more to life than arguing with folk, plus it also made me realise there's some bloody good people looking out for me, your goodself and many more absolute diamonds of people on here included too, hence my return on here, so, a big thank you ♥

Life is too short 👍

I think they've made 2 haven't they? Winter fuel payments and possibly this one? Was there something about green energy as well?

That's just our parliamentary system doing it's job isn't it? It's literally the way it's designed.

Overlooking the most important one are we? Grooming Gang inquiry?

The usual line of attack.

You (and me) are too stupid to even own a Keffiyeh and winklepickers. We are not worthy

Bolty will be along soon to explain that the BBC are a bunch of lefties with their own agenda.

Agree with others crisis is a bit sensational, bit like watching Bolton lots of silly mistakes meaning results are not where they should be.

The BBC were way too mild in their assessment. They won't bite the hand that feeds them. Not very hard anyway.

The 'hard left' of the Labour Party are slowly coming to the fore. This is where the U turns are coming from (particularly on this one and the winter fuel payments). They were merely hidden as Labour are unelectable in their true form and they know it.

Their union paymasters now starting to exert their influence. The beginning of the end.

We are now but it was like pulling fucking teeth. The Labour Party really wanted local councils, loaded with kith and kin of the perpetrators, to sweep this under the carpet and keep one of their voting blocs onside.

We'll always see this differently. I just think they were waiting for the outcomes of the report - and then implemented the recommendations. You know what Keir's like. Proceduralist.

In any event - all's well that ends well.

I think most governments U-turn on multiple occasions during the course of a parliament. This is what happens when you have a bill. People read it, people object, it gets amended and eventually it goes through (or it doesn't).

Anyway - I doubt we'll agree on this one. But it's the same with every government. It's just how our parliamentary system works.

What they haven't done - is u-turned on a principle - which is what raises my eye brows when it happens.

One thing I looked forward to when I retired last week was cancelling my union subscription to Unite, £15 a month in my pocket now

Unions, blah!

Self interested empty vessels, shouting loudly but doing fuck all.

Not all of them I suppose, but of all the years of membership, only one rep had a shred of decency, and he was bloody fantastic.

The rest, well...

You are correct my friend. We will never agree on this one. On most things as it happens but that's OK.
