Eh? Why would banning no-fault evictions increase homelessness?

Shadow housing secretary Sir James Cleverly said the reforms "will drive landlords from the market, reduce supply and send prices up for tenants".

He said that, "with a start date of May 2026, we are now set for a six-month fire sale with tenants forced out at short notice".

It’s quite obvious what will Happen if you’re not a thicko. The in laws are planning on getting rid of theirs because of all the new regulations coming in as are a few others I know.

To be fair, I am sure some landlords will sell up before as they don't want the added hassle post May 26.

But you can bet your arse with the current rent market others will buy those and rent them out again, not all sure but plenty.

There are loads of great landlords but also loads of cunts and the rules are well overdue reform.

And? Nobody seems to be answering my question. Why would landlords kick tenants out if they've done nothing wrong, just because there's a law being introduced that prevents them kicking tenants out who've done nothing wrong? If there was a law being introduced tomorrow that said I couldn't eat my own shit, I wouldn't start gobbling up my own shit for the rest of the night.

because some landlords won't like this law and decide to no longer be a landlord, so kick their tenants out now whilst they can, and sell their house

in turn that will mean less rentals, and prices will go up

Why won't some landlords like this law?

Labour just quietly going about and getting things done.

maybe because they are rogue landlords who don't like the idea of not being able to kick tenants out on a whim

there are some examples of such landlords in this article, as well as other landlords with concerns about this law

So we should pander to rogue landlords instead of looking after innocent people?

no, we should not pander to rogue landlords - it seems some genuine landlords might have potential issues with rogue tenants if it goes to far the other way in terms of tenants rights

I'm not sure if you think I have an issue with this law, because as a landlord I don't

was just explaining to you why we might now start seeing evictions as you seemed unsure

Thanks, but your point doesn't really make any sense. Why would "genuine landlords" have potential issues with it? They can still evict 'rogue tenants'.

Surely the only landlords who start rushing through evictions for no-fault tenants before the law comes in are rogue landlords?

it wasn't my point, it was a point raised in the article - see below

I know about as much as this as you, I've only been reading about it since it was brought up a few hours ago

since then I can see why rogue landlords will start selling up, because they don't get to be rogue anymore

the bit below suggests genuine landlords might have an issue too, presuming that Maureen is a genuine landlord

right now, I have no issue with it on the face of it, maybe i will have further down the line if a tenant creates issues for me off the back of it

so you're best off asking a genuine landlord who does have an issue right now

Maureen Treadwell contacted BBC News with concerns about the new law. Her family rent out 10 properties in Hampshire.

"There are draconian fines if you get things wrong, so the whole thing feels anti-landlord," she said.

She raised her fears that, without reforms to the court system making it quicker to evict bad tenants, there will be an exodus of people who want to let their homes.

"Is it worth letting your house and then having a court fight to recover it, or a one-year delay? It's not worth it. So it will end up making the housing crisis worse."

Reed told the BBC he was "working with the Ministry of Justice to look at how we can ensure that there are not undue delays" in situations where a landlord wanted to evict a tenant who was misbehaving.

It is, as the MP said in her tweet.

This upcoming budget is proving to be a bit of a challenge for poor old Rachel. Hope there’ll be no more tears.

The first I have heard of it which isn't surprising given Corbyn is about as popular as gonorrhea except for the hard left nutters.

The idea they could run a party with a serious chance of running country if they are like this before they get going is strange.

Wont be a surprise once someone is elected leader if they splinter even further. On QT their plan seems to be to do everything and get millionaires to pay for it all.

Lighten up Bolty old mate! 😁

Oh, don't you worry. Since the Jabba The Hutt insults on here I've been lightening up daily.

I still put 5 sugars in my tea but have instructed the missus that it must not be stirred.

We are even contemplating trading in the engine lift for trucks for a smaller car type version for storage space reasons and improving her ability to manoeuvre me around Bolty Towers.

No point until Christmas though. The liposuction will have been completed by then.
