Well there are a couple of issues there. First is there is no one to negotiate with as Barnier's team has been disbanded. 2nd, the EU has said no more negotiating. That said, once the new EC President is in place who knows. But to get to that point, Boris will have to request another extention.

It shouldn't be underestimated, the impact of the brexit party too. The EU won't want them upsetting the apple cart: get back to the table, make the agreement more palatable and get it done and dusted. After the third vote it gap had closed significantly. Not sure a huge amount of change would be required - that "malthouse" idea seemed to placate some more staunch MPs so there maybe some mileage in exploring something along those lines. A more brexit minded leader may also make wavering remainers think twice about going against it for fear of a push for a no deal situation. BBC saying they anticipated 6 runners to get the necessary backing for the next round. Plenty of options for MPs who aren't convinced he's the right person. You said common sense would prevail 3 years ago and it didn't so why would it prevail now. The EU are not going to budge and we will not leave without a deal so what is going to break the impass? As you said a GE will not deliver a breakthrough either so where do we go from here? The country cannot function like this, we need to move on for the sake of all of our sanity. So we will be in this paralysis for years to come? Then A50 will be revoked after the next GE and we will be back to where we were on 22nd June 2016. Theresa the appeaser didn’t work out too well (unless you voted remain) and maybe it’s time we went another tack.
