Every year, around this time, the bird's kitchen seems to magically create the horrible fuckers. They appear from nowhere just after it goes dark, yet in the morning they've disappeared again. Can only assume they're coming up through the floor somewhere, but I'm fucked if I know how.

 

Anyone had similar experience of this or know how to prevent it other than leaving pellets or salt all over the floor?

Sounds horrible but easy to sort.

The slimy buggers love beer.

Get a baking tray , not too deep.

Fill it 2/3rds with ale.

In the morning they will all be in it.

Well.bloated and unable to move.

There must be a gap under the door.

What am I gonna do

Get the odd one or two, sometimes one will migrate into the living room, leaving trails across the carpet.

We get a fair few and our back garden is full of em, and snails.  

 

Assume they sneak in when the doors open and come out for their jollies after dark.

It's slug trails on the bedsheets you want ????

Any miniscule gaps in brickwork/pipes etc are easy for them.

 

Can you house train hedgehogs to go round and mop them up of a night time?

Dunno but do know my cat's fookin useless.

Don't let the cat eat slugs. Lung worm is gradually spreading, may already be round your way.

New products available to prevent them causing harm, but be worth checking.

 

Its actually caused us a right headache with these pups, as collies are at a higher risk of possessing a faulty MDR-1 gene, which means that the lungworm prevention stuff could actually cause serious harm.

Now having DNA tests to check them out.

We've had them. We went round sides of the carpet and filled in the gaps with salt. It's not a great look but it's pretty much worked. I'll try the beer though good tip

I'm not that worried as my cat seems to think slugs are beneath him . . . mice, frogs, massive moths or anything fairly large and flappy on the other hand!

They're fine. We were initially warned by the vet that there is a gene fault in dogs that can restrict certain treatments. Its rare, but just a bit more likely in collies, in particular lassie types.

The vet was relaxed about giving them the spot on stuff, but said just be aware there is a risk of seizures or even death if they are susceptible.

For £22 per pup for a DNA check, seems a no brainer to have them tested. If they have the gene then there are alternative prevention medicines.

They love salt I believe

You can buy wool pellets- they are irritated by the stuff and won't cross it.

Doesn't nobble them, but at least you won't get slug puree everywhere.

On produce, or plants, or their containers. Maybe as eggs even. Quite east really.

Only need a few and once they start shagging a producing young then they're off.
