  • Just to update, just got out of theatre in Wythenshawe following insertion of two stents. Thanks all for the good wishes.

  • Never had flu because it's a made up affliction.   You shower of queers.

  • Had the jab a few years ago when work were sending folk for it free of charge. Maybe a coincidence but I seemed to pick up more colds that winter than I've ever done in my life. Never bothered with it

It’s completely ruined Xmas in the spider household.

No doubt it’ll all clear up just in time for returning to work

I'd been ill bar a week or two's respite since October and was whining like a stuck pig every time I coughed - ended up on antibiotics early Dec and got rid just before.

My Mrs went and got it though so I've been breaking my back looking after the family over the festivities.  Still, got shed loads of whisky which has helped tremendously.

I've been ill since mid December and not even heard of this Aussie flu til today!

Got worse towards christmas and have barely left the house since Xmas Day (apart from the game yesterday and work today), I managed to make it to the walk in centre in Leigh on NYE and was told I had to be ill for 12 weeks to get any antibiotics, ridiculous!!!

what did you want antibiotics for?

if you have got flu and i reckon you probably haven't, antibiotics are no good

and 12 weeks?

cant see it, if im honest

12 days is probably a little more than id expect but not completely stupid

we have to reduce this reliance on antibiotics

sleep, paracetamol and honey/lemon is best starting point for normally healthy, youngish folk

Whenever I am prescribed antibiotics it's been a doctor prescribing them. It's fine to say we need to reduce the reliance but if doctors are telling us to take them the blame lies there.

For the record, I don't disagree with you I just think it's down to the doctors to stop prescribing rather than WE needing to reduce the reliance.

By we, I meant the system

There's lots of chatter about climate change but I reckon over reliance on antibiotics is a bigger concern

It's often said that the more we take the less effective they become. So now "we've" made them next to useless what next? Do we wait for a scientist to develop a better anti-biotic or do we say, "Let's just forget antibiotics were ever invented" and let nature take its course?

I've only ever had antibiotics once in my life, so assume I'll be ok come the zombie acopalypse?

I didn't want them hence not being right for over two months and sleep/rest is not really an option in my household, currently; but I agree in principal.  Docs said first thing was an upper respiratory infection then the latter time a chest infection

Not had antibiotics for years but within two days i was right as rain so I'm not gonna argue.

Also had a flu jab for the first time ever about three weeks before I first got ill . . .

think i may have mentioned on here that flu jabs are hit and miss as its guesswork what strain is going to be about

Aye, I got it through work and thought it couldn't hurt . . .

I reckon if your immune system is doing OK you don't get 'it' - it's being run down, tired, stressed or over indulging on the booze, fags etc that seems to allow it to 'get in'.

spider- you're a man of steel.

in fairness, in my experience they don't chuck them about willy nilly. When I had pneumonia and similarly for the missus, they were given out as a result of an examination,

apparently the lungs sound different if you've got a bacterial infection as apposed to a chesty cough.

I've just finished my 4th course of antibiotics for chronic sinusitis, which I've had since last July, I've not had any antibiotics for about 30 years before this crash course, hope I'm not fooked now!

Also, I had the flu jab in November, my Mrs had a real bad flu type virus just before Xmas, which I thought I was nailed on to get, touch wood, I've been fine and I didn't get any side effects from the jab.

Unusual for sinusitis to last so long, do you have asthma by any chance?

No asthma, it started with an upper tooth that was bad it had 2 out of the 3 roots infected and it spread to my sinus cavity, loads of mucus was trapped in there and I had an operation 2 weeks ago, I just hope this operation works, coz its been horrendous.

It's not so much that antibiotics will be less effective because you've had a large dose. It's more that if we use them en masse then bacteria are likely to evolve which are resistant to the ones we've got.

So there's a high likelyhood that many of us on here will die from infections in decades to come which are currently relatively innocuous.

Happy new year.

Had a flu jab between Christmas and New Year and last few days I've felt bloody terrible; tight chest was a bit scary. Woke up this morning (that was a bonus!) feeling loads better, but I wonder how bad these flu jabs make the average recipient feel.

Some right benders on here ????

We know but we've been asked not to out you; you'd do it yourself in your own time. :give_rose:

Ah, that would explain it!

I have nasal polyps which means I don't have a sense of smell but also means any kind of stuffy nose is a right bastard due to the pressure on my sinuses.

Hopefully it will all clear up soon for you.

I've been outed a few times already ha. Old news he he

Coincidence - you'd have woken up feeling terrible irrespective of whether you'd had the jab the day before.

indeed

did my research and apparently its not a live vaccine so cant infect you
