L/H White Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 (edited) now its all done, i was very impressed with the squad overall, and i was one of them that mocked it when announced I knew very little of, pickford, maguire and trippier, but i now think those 3 are the most likely to get big moves off the back of the world cup Anyone else that could squeak a big move? Obviously Kane could be off to Madrid of spanish reports are to be believed Edited July 15, 2018 by L/H White
Big E Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 The squad is decent. However we can’t play people who aren’t 100% (eg ali can’t have been 100% and imo this hinders the team). I like we played people on form. Who comes in for young now ? Kane to Madrid for me is the move of the summer. He’s a cracking finisher and definitely world class
gonzo Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 (edited) Trippier will go for massive money at some stage. He’s a talent that lad. Pickford will end up at Chelsea once Yon fella goes Madrid or juve. Edited July 16, 2018 by gonzo
Moderators Casino Posted July 16, 2018 Moderators Posted July 16, 2018 If we back Southgate we trust him that a half fit all I is better than the alternatives I thought he was wank I think sterling is and was shite But the manager, for me, has earned the right to get on with it
gonzo Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Aye I just don’t get deli Ali at all. Can’t say I saw spurs kick a ball last season bar a few goals on motd so don’t know how good he is for them. I’d say he will be at Everton or West Ham within a couple of seasons. Maybe lower.

I think he was just injured tbh Good player
Underpants Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Im not getting carried away. Give that squad a different manager, say Allardyce, it would not have gone as far as it did. I was not a fan of GS but my coldnesss to him has thawed a little. Southgate, and the folk he surrounded himself with, did all the hard work. The team had the luck of the draw with the group and the knockout opponents. Let's see how this group of players, and staff, do in the next 18 months. 7/10 for squad and management.

I don’t get Ali if not fit.
athywhite1958 Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 I just hope somebody like City or United don't buy the likes of Trippier and Maguire to warm their benches which will ruin them as players IMO
Pablo Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 Trippier will go for massive money at some stage. He’s a talent that lad. Pickford will end up at Chelsea once Yon fella goes Madrid or juve. He turn 28 in 2 months, its now or never for a big big money money move.
Moderators Zico Posted July 17, 2018 Moderators Posted July 17, 2018 He turn 28 in 2 months, its now or never for a big big money money move. don't think he's good enough for a big money move to City or United, or that he'd improve them significantly enough to warrant a big bid, and he ain't going to Chelsea or Arsenal think Spurs challenging for the CL each season is plenty good enough for a player like him
deane koontz Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 (edited) I think he was just injured tbh Good player Aye I rate him too. He definitely looked like he was carrying a knock or summut, wasn't moving freely at all. All in all well impressed. Obviously we need to work on the center mid areas as we seemed to get overrun against decent side...big gaps. I gave up on England for a bit when Sam acted the cunt then they appointed Southgate haha...So deflated. I can see Mcguire at united...I can't believe Smalling and Jones are still there tbh. gonzo Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 He turn 28 in 2 months, its now or never for a big big money money move. Fuck me I had no idea he was 28. Thought he was about 20 or summet Where the fuck has he been?!
MalcolmW Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 Fuck me I had no idea he was 28. Thought he was about 20 or summet Where the fuck has he been?! Fake news - he is not 28 till September. ManCity - no first team appearances, having been at Academy from age 8. Loan spells at Barnsley 2010-11 and Burnley 2011-12. Then signed by Burnley in 2012 and by Spurs in 2015, (doubling his league appearances each season -6, 12, 24, so obv. he will make 48 league appearances next season?).
Site Supporter Alf Hartigan Posted July 17, 2018 Site Supporter Posted July 17, 2018 Needs to stay at Spurs that lad, even though it took him til last season to establish as first choice. Fuck me, Burnley have had some cracking English players without splashing the cash
madthatter Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Fuck me, Burnley have had some cracking English players without splashing the cash Do you think it shows that nurturing English talent can yield good results over splashing cash about on Johnny foreign types? Also had a decent manager there and settles set up for a good few years which must help
gonzo Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Think it’s more to do with their wage structure and agent fee cap. Good on em. Wish we’d have had the same foresight
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 18, 2018 Site Supporter Posted July 18, 2018 One thing ken said early doors was that the club would need to cut costs and live more within its means. (Or words to that effect) I hope, given time, that we will adopt a similar strategy to Burnley. Build steadily.
madthatter Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Think it’s more to do with their wage structure and agent fee cap. Good on em. Wish we’d have had the same foresight Aye, no bitterness here - good luck to em. Now if only they can work out how to have sex with non-family members and we're cooking on gas Either way, young English lads are getting more game time at top levels which is helping the national team. Never was rocket science was it?
Moderators Casino Posted July 18, 2018 Moderators Posted July 18, 2018 Prior to the mass influx of foreigners, our qualification record for majors was shite
ZiggyStardust Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Prior to the mass influx of foreigners, our qualification record for majors was shite Was it ? Failed to qualify for world cup :74,78,98 Failed to Qualify Euros: 76,84,08 1974 & 1978 world cups had 9 & 10 European teams (including hosts & Holders), 1994 had 13 The 76 Euros had 4 (!) teams qualify, 84 had 8, and 2008 had 16 Not sure which year you consider the mass influx (92 ish ?) but it was a damn sight harder to qualify before then. In fact, perhaps 94 & 08 were the greatest failures to qualify.
Moderators Casino Posted July 19, 2018 Moderators Posted July 19, 2018 (edited) how many could qualify isnt really relevant to my comment we didnt qualify, is it blaming foreigners is a popular pastime but im not sure it tells the whole story, here....as per sticking to world cups, if you like, my memory goes back to 74 we failed in 74 and 78, our league dominated by brits since then we have failed to qualify once in 94 Edited July 19, 2018 by Casino

As mentioned about a month ago on here Liverpool won trophies with no English players. We should have classed the Scots, Welsh and both lots of Irish as foreign players and limited clubs to 2 per side.
Moderators Casino Posted July 19, 2018 Moderators Posted July 19, 2018 Detail, mere detail However,I'd hazard a guess there were more English in the top league than there are now
