Pensions

Featured Replies

I've just discovered a pension plan I never knew I'd started. Nothing spectacular but a pleasant surprise nonetheless.

I have a workplace pension and another one from the last place I worked.

Is it worth combining them into 1 or 2 pensions? Or just contributing to all 3?

I rang Aviva and the questionnaire they've sent me looks like an exam for string theory.

Any experts on here who can offer some basic advice?

Ideally, how I can get the money now as I'm highly unlikely to make retirement age.

  • Some thoughts; Firstly, none of this advice. Financial advice is, thankfully,  a highly-regulated industry, so any personal advice has a process. This is just a generic note, based on current leg

Bolton Diver will tell you.

I had two local government pensions once, but was advised not to merge them at the time as it would have yielded lower results.

Wife had a pension with Littlewoods and despite many requests, have been unable to have them cash it or transfer it or let her claim when she reaches 55 (next year). She only paid in for about 18 months before leaving the company but they send her a nice glossy magazine every year to let her know how little it's worth.

You can't access it until you are 55 (in current legislation, which is under review)

Always happy to help; PM me your number and I'll call you

I've got one from that I paid into for about 9 months when I was on the IDN gravy train. It must be worth a veritable fortune with all the DDT tapes I was knocking out. In between knocking one out in trap 2.

What, exactly, are you encouraging him to check?

So say for example I worked as a young un at the odd job and I paid into a pension, is there a bit of cash sat away for me?
Do I just need to contact them to find out?

Micky D is laughing all the way to the bank,as you are all paying his pension. Same as part time poster barnstonworth, council workers robbing us hard working citizens , and we can’t get our bins emptied each week 🤔

I had 2 or 3 the best one was when I contracted out of serps years ago, I used a local company who advised me to put them in one pot, they’ve increased by about 10% in the last 2 years which while not great I’m happy with. Seek professional advice which you’ll pay for but I think worth it. Just started a salary sacrifice scheme and for £500 a month the contribution is nearly a grand.

Salary Sacrifice is by far the best way to build a sizeable pot quickly. In my last 2 years of working I ended up sacrificing 73% of my salary which was the best decision i ever made

I’ve got 15 years of a final salary scheme locked away which gets me c20k per year on retirement. Current employer is salary sacrifice and I put in 400 they put in 800 which is max percentage contribution I’m allowed for them to add there bit. I can add more but isn’t matched at all by company.

‘By time I should be getting 3-4K per month pension depending on what bonuses I chuck in between now and then.

Your pension is Thomas Fooked then.

I contribute £200 pm, work apparently £800.

When can I go on coach holidays?

One thing I regret is not paying into a pension, is it too late now?

Definitely not - you’ve still got plenty of years to contribute. State retirement age will be at least 68 for you

If we bump into each other in Portsmouth, remind me to tell you to fuck off. 🤣

The more you put away the better obviously but anything you save is better than nothing and growth will be better than the average bank account. Don’t forget, for every £100 you save, Hmrc will add a further £25 too
