Got me thinking that. There aren't many good footy books out there. 'Steaming in' the first and best of the Kick lit stuff. Fever pitch & a few autobiographies (Paul McGrath and Gary Nelson spring to mind) but it's mostly shite. Avoid BSAs pile of crap, Toddy's too and one I recently read and wished I'd never bothered - Jermain Pennant's. Feckin awful

Feckin awful It's odd that a sport that takes up so much of the country's time, effort, money and emotion actually has very little representation in screen or written fiction/nearly fiction. Autobiographies, awash with them but only a few really have much to say Hooligan books, so many are just like any other. A few stand out, that Stoke one was good, Cardiff's. Documentary type books like One Night In Turin, When Football Came Home, World In Motion are excellent and I could read that sort of stuff all day long Fiction/inspired by stuff. Fever Pitch was the modern blueprint but I think people want edge these days, it's such a partisan sport especially today. In surprised there's not more about though. The Football Factory trilogy was good but it's a fucking hard read at times.

October 17, 20196 yr Think the last footy book i read was Gazza's autobiography. I seem to remember it being absolute dross, and everything being everybody else's fault. Picked up Paul Mcgrath's book from a charity shop years back still haven't read it though. Probably not "holiday books" but i've got The Looming Tower and Malcolm Gladwell's latest book on the go at the minute.
