November 9, 20196 yr Just looked int fridge and 4 cans of boddingtons was propped up ont back bit, said to myself " ooh, ultimate back 4". Then suddenly thought ooooh! What's my ultimate back BWFC 4?. L/B Bibi C/B Gerry Taggart C/B Paul Jones R/B , now this is difficult,, coz I've only been a fan for 50 odd years so I'm gonna say Peter Nicholson. Although he could play anywhere.
November 9, 20196 yr Anyone who doesn't include Gudni needs to give their head a wobble. Don't think he ever had a bad game. My favourite Bolton player of all time.

November 9, 20196 yr I used to love Taggart, built more like a prop forward than a football player. His shoulder to shoulder challenges were great.
November 9, 20196 yr LB: Candela CB: Laville CB: Bergsson RB: I can't think of one who particularly stands out

You're almost right. John Ritson was definitely before my time anyway. 😀 I just think Laville and Candela were two of the classiest defenders I've watched play for us, even if their stays here weren't long ones. I suppose it defends what the criteria for "ultimate" is.
November 9, 20196 yr We've had a few decent left backs over the years Ricky, Tony Dunne, Mike Whitlow, Candela, Don McAlister, Jimmy Phillips Less so at RB, but Neil Cox isn't a bad shout, Peter Nicholson a great servant, only saw Ritson at the end of his career, and Steve McAnespie of course........ We've had loads of decent quality centre backs, Gudni, Walsh ,Paul Jones, Taggart, NGotty, Big Sam, Laville, Gary Cahill to name a few. My choise would be Cox, Gudni, NGotty and Ricky. Edited November 9, 20196 yr by TrickyTrotter Forgot Cahill
November 10, 20196 yr Hard call for the centre backs Cahill gudni surprised nobody mentioned Chris fairclough classy player taggart did what it said on the tin but could also play abit
November 10, 20196 yr N'Gotty Gudni Cahill Ricky (just ahead of Jiminho) Honourable mention to Fairclough, Taggart, Hendry, Tal Ben Haim and Cox Edited November 10, 20196 yr by frank_spencer

November 10, 20196 yr Author I almost said Nicky Hunt at R/B but was afraid I'd be laughed at, just shows what a poor selection we have had over the years in this position. Was Bugsy Borrows a R/B? Can't remember but a standout player in a poor team, went on to play in the top league for years and never really got the recognition he deserved.
November 10, 20196 yr Right back? Jimmy P at Sheff Weds. Oh, sorry, I see you said best, I read it as 'Most ill-concieved, destructive headscratching decision ever'. My bad.
