Currently on the shelves at our benefactor's - Home Bargains...

20210321-194306.jpg

Lagunitas IPA 4x355ml - £3.49.

20210320-190757.jpg

Various 330ml Taproom - 99p

20210321-194328.jpg

Hoegaarden 330ml - 79p

20210321-194359.jpg

Pacifico 4x330ml - £2.99

20210320-190834.jpg

Cassels Milk Stout 330ml - 99p

And finally, the sale of the century...

Millilitre per pence the cheapest 'Speccy' has been seen at anywhere for twenty odd years...

20210320-190902.jpg

The King of Trampjuice, the O.G. of Down and Out Drinks - Carlsberg Special Brew, by appointment to Danish Royalty...

330ml for 99p.

That's ninety nine pennies.

Drink £4.95's worth of it and I dare anyone not to feel like going out and grappling with a PCSO outside a chippy.

It did cross my mind to pick a couple up. Decided against it in case I met you under the Beaumont road bridge with the ghost of Oliver Reed

@Rudy

It sounded like a good place for an al fresco sup until embankment pointed out there's spikes and anti-intruder crap on it now...

I'd have definitely bought a fivers worth (of speccy), but I'm being a good lad until next month.

If it wasn't for Brexit and Corona could've filled a van up and drove it to Italy - tripled one's money.

Take a load of them shite Walsh trainers too, they love 'em there...

Strangely enough the next cheapest place for speccy is Sainsbury's - £7.50 for 4x440ml...

They describe it as:

'...A full-bodied strong lager, with a rich malty flavour and a subtle hint of cognac...'

They suggest drinking it to accompany a half-eaten donner kebab retrieved from a dustbin, a handful of diazepam and a joint of black mamba.

“ a full bodied rich dark ale with a subtle hint of the job centre and moor lane bus station toilets”

havent they reduced the strength of Speccy < same as they did with Tennants X ?

7.5% now.

Aka Carlsberg Elephant Beer strength.

Hawthorns goto beverage.

No wonder I ended up mysteriously and unceremoniously ejected onto Spa Road so many times.

I think they reduced it for tax reasons but it must've been nice for them to remove the laughable 'Sharing Can' (a can being way above Gov. daily guidelines) from the livery.

It was 9.2% in its heyday iirc.

As was Tennents Super.

Kestrel Super 9.6%

Bavaria 8.6%

But the daddy was Skol Super at 10%.

Then it was onto your Barley Wines - Gold Label was about 13% I think.

My sister (aspirins/ironing board) is eleven and a bit years older than me...

Sometimes I half expect her to go on about being evacuated during the blitz...

She says she used to go to 'Scamps' on a Tuesday and Gold Label was 12.5p a bottle.

The first time I got served in a shop (around 13-ish) I bought two four packs of Gold Label as it was the most 'old-mannish' drink I could think of, this  unlikely to be bought by an under-ager...

My drinking buddy, some eighteen months older, had to go to another shop for a couple of cans of fizzy ribena to wash it down with, the fanny.

I did consider going home to fetch a tin opener and teaspoon to eat it with.

It was a memorable evening.

Probably a pissy 8% or sommat these days.

@Youri McAnespie ever had this?

src.1597746216.SNCPSG10.obj.0.1.jpg.oe.j

a litre can at 10%

I've had the non-homeless variety years ago...

They were supped on the train whilst going to an awayday so I felt like a hard midget.

I expect the 10% version is only available in Denmark. 🙁

Speaking of Denmark - 24 cans for a hundred and forty quid, and they pick the cunts...

Bargain.

'Free' delivery though.

At least buying these magic bean brews locally theoretically keeps money here.

Although in actuality it probably ends up in the tills of Milanese fashion houses, French Estate Agents, German Supercar Dealerships, Swedish Yachtyards and the pockets of Peruvian 'exporters'...
