Site Supporter Biggish Dave Posted June 19, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted June 19, 2020 I’m buzzing for next season. Not missed football at all but once the new manager is in, players signed/kept on, friendlies arranged etc I’ll be all over it

I'm pleased for Macc fans after all the crap they've put up with this season, and another local game for us. Great news. Inevitably it’ll end up midweek but early dart from work and plenty of time for a few beers.

An exciting appointment, and a level(ish) playing field next season might start to build some enthusiasm. Some players in and some pre season wins wouldn't go amiss either. Johnnyrotten
Agreed, we need a vaccine for away fans standing on terraces at Macclesfield. But small steps, June is going better than any of us expected so far, for BW and the Covid situation, so bring on some more progress next few months. RUREADY2ROLL
Its 9 days before we will know the retained list of players plus we would normally be looking forward to the start of friendlies in July leading to the season starting in six weeks time. They should be announcing the dates for the start of next season now so clubs can get prepared; I reckon it will be 1st or 2nd Saturday of September

I wish they'd come out with a concrete date for next season starting though Im stalling over committing to a weekend away in last weekend of August or first weekend in September and it's going to get awkward stalling much longer! No way I want to be missing opening game.

EFL can probably start 1-2 weekends before PL does
Johnnyrotten
There's no way its starting in August. The play off final isnt till 4th August. So no fixtures till mid August minimum. Presumably players will want a few weeks off before "pre-season training" (and clubs to recruit players for the division they're in). Also need government to allow some fans back in before Divs 1 and 2 can afford to host matches. As much as I want the season to start, my thinking is the longer we wait the better chance of going to away games and/or sitting where we want at matches. radcliffe white
As I posted further up the efl have 2nd week in September as a provisional date
Johnnyrotten
#Yeah I did see that. Just making the point that Marc505 is safe going away in August! But 'pencilled in' is the key phrase, they cant be definite for games below championship until confirmation that we can attend games. So fixtures cant even come out till that day unless fixtures are 'subject to change' etc.

It has all been fully open for a few weeks and looked sound but word is now there's a lot of people really uneasy there about the lack of care about the disease and cases slowly rising. So we'll see. jeep
Has to be delayed as long as possible so that we can get fans in. Think how far things have changed since March 20th - In the pub Pubs shut Lockdown Pretend Lockdown Shops open To be followed by - 1 metre social distancing Barbers open Pubs/restaurants open 0.5 metre social distancing Then football league starts mid September/or early October..... Marc505
2 dates have been tabled at the EFL meeting: Weekend of 29 August Weekend of 12 September Theres an international break on the weekend between that (!) apparently no fans expected at start. Moderators Casino Posted July 1, 2020 Moderators Share Posted July 1, 2020 (edited) I'd expect 12th if there's no fans I suppose no fans is a reason they can't make many decisions on ST'S Also, theres gonna be some very clausey contracts being issued if we have to pay players with no crowds til who knows when Edited July 1, 2020 by Casino

Johnnyrotten
Its a head scratcher for me this. How are Macclesfield and Forest Green going to pay 20 players, a load of backroom staff and a load of admin staff in 2 months, with no fans? Surely the EFL are cutting the throats of there clubs going for a quick restart, I'd rather wait till October if it increased the chances of fans being allowed in. Leyther_Matt
Can will be kicked far enough down the road that we’ll be playing in front of fans in some form by the start. Pretty much every Scottish club have had their season tickets on sale for months and have been pretty up front about having streaming options etc if fans aren’t allowed in. Weird that it doesn’t seem to have caught on down here.
