In Bolty's world she is part of the liberal, metropolitan cabal. She's a speaker and activist (after being an actor) and has fought for women's rights and especially women's rights to choose, and highlighting domestic abuse. She is most vocal about women's equality. Or a 'Feminazi', if you are inclined to disagree with her.

I believe she's also spoken on anti-hunting topics and I believe was one of those UN goodwill ambassadors. 

So, to some she's a 'champagne socialist' actor who has got above her station and telling others what to do,  to others she's a survivor of rape and someone who cares about certain causes and uses her platform to speak highlight these.

Not saying actors who preach are not inherently annoying, but the alt. right latched onto her as a bit of a figurehead for everything there really despise, and she just remained as vocal, good on her I say. Which in turn annoyed them more as they were worried their mrs would start getting ideas and wouldn't be able to iron their fred perry's before marches.
