I don't know. That 3-4 home loss to Watford a few years ago (probably about 10!) was one of the most entertaining games I've ever seen.

Proper VFM.

That was a great game.

If we'd have had Gilks in net we'd have probably got something out of that too.

I made a few quid out of that game constantly placing ‘next team to score’ bets and cashing out as the ball hit the net before they had chance to suspend betting.

Coming from you mate I take that as a compliment.

36% possession at home, that’s going to get the crowds rushing back when we finally can get in.

Thank you☺️

How would you have responded if it hadn’t come from a mate?

I always said, throughout 45+ years of watching Bolton, that a 4-5 entertaining-as-fuck home loss doesn’t have the feel-good factor that a scrappy 1-0 win has. Entertaining football is way down the pecking order of what makes a football fan happy. Results are pretty much all that matters.

Thank you for sharing your opinion but to me your comparison doesn’t make sense.

A win is a win, loss a loss etc. Comparing the feel good factor for a win to a loss in competitive sport doesn’t equate.

The 4-3 win over Forest at burnden was even better.

Because what was at stake at that particular moment.

For me the 1-0 win over city in the season we pissed the league was massive because we’d come down from a season over being beat and they were the perceived big guns and we put classed them that day. A win which could have been much wider.

Winning football will

We had 40% and 39% when we won our other two games

We can have 90% possession but fans will be peed off if we lose. Its all about winning games to get bums on seats

To give a bit of context, Humungous was talking about us only having 36% possession, Zico  pointed out that our other two wins had 40% & 39% but were wins and R2R came in saying that a 90% possession loss wouldn’t bring the fans in. Both the responses were backed up by my own thoughts about whether or not we watch for entertainment or because Bolton are our team and we’re there to see them win.

So sorry, Morrizio, that you can’t comprehend the point I make isn’t my fault.

I think it's the difference between people who go to football of either being a committed supporter of a club or those who have to be "entertained".

The old question at a Bolton game was, would you prefer to see a dour, ground out 1-0 Bolton win or a thrilling, end to end, goal feast 6-7 defeat........I'd take the 1-0 win without a nano second's thought. (obviously i'd prefer us to play well as well as winning but winning is more important )

Getting battered a Citeh and yet coming away with a 1-0 win from a penalty was one of the best times in the prem.

Winning and playing well will always be most preferable, but to quote the late Al Davis 'Just win baby'

No need to apologise I think we share the same thought pattern that watching our club is about entertainment and therefore we emotionally invest to harness happiness and when that happiness occurs it’s special.

Apology? Where was that? I don’t give a flying fuck about entertainment. I don’t clap when we win a throw-in. I’m there to see us win, however we play. Obviously an entertaining win is preferable to a non-entertaining win but as I said, win first, entertain second.

In my opinion trying to equate happiness from a win to a defeat is flawed.

Win 1-0 or 5-0?

The meaning of competitive sport is that the victor is rewarded. Comparing the feel good factor to a win or a loss is nonsensical in my opinion

There wasn't much at stake was there? We were a mid table side and they had Stan Collymore.

It should have been a question mark rather than a full stop, it’s up to @Tonge moor green jacketto expand upon why that match is particularly memorable as that’s what memories are, personal.

That match though at Burnden in 1993, on television I don’t think Collymore played for them then? A quick google search suggests he signed in 1995.
