My lad just asked me - Dad, if you could go to one BWFC game again, which would it be?

That’s a question.

He just popped it out.

So, you can go back, one game to relive from breakfast to bedtime.

What would you pick?

. Swindon second leg coming from behind (ohh err).

Thing about Swindon was you couldn't have scripted it better if you tried.

Not sure the Charlton last ever Burnden game has had much of a mention. But the emotions then were different to any of the other great games and, can by definition, never be repeated. So that would be one to go back to simply because we'll never replicate it.

Somewhere down the line there'll be massively important last minute goals, cup scalps, ginormous away followings, promotions, maybe even Europe - who knows. But we'll never have the last game at a ground with a 100 years of history and with so much triumph and tragedy etched into its fading fabric. And with Supa's goal and Wolstenholme's eulogy as bonuses...

Some good calls Ani so many you forget

We need to be in the Prem by 2029-30 to keep a record that only 2 other clubs share. Can you name them and what for?

Presumably something to do with playing in top league every decade ?

Yeah. Only 2 others now. Derby were part of the group till their failure in the 10’s

Villa and Everton isn't it? Mind you, we only just scraped the 80s 😄

No surprises on the winner here. Aye 80’s was a close call but I like to think we put the work in early.

Evatt will have us in the Championship within 5 years so hopefully there’s enough work gone on developing youngsters into top players and enough investment to make that final step

Wrote about it elsewhere but he was borderline with football. Never played it at all, certainly had no interest in joining a team and only came to the odd Bolton game to be with me and was more arsed about the bag of goodies he got during the match.

After that day he could see what it meant to people, him and me. It was like a switch went off in his head.

Now his bedroom is a shrine to Bolton, England and Ronaldo, plays for a team, when anyone asks who he supports he proudly says Bolton.

Being mascot earlier in year was a dream come true for him.

All down to that day.

That is absolutely class and what it’s all about

Racially abused? Was he bollocks. Ruud got the best reception i’ve ever seen for an opposition player at Burnden, he was sheer class that day and was warmly aplauded by most Bolton fans.

Caused a bit of a storm at the time did that.

I was in early for that game, and when RG came out to warm up well before kick off he was given a good clap by the few that were already seated. Continued in a similar vain afterwards.

Then some cunt went off on one.

1) West Bromley at home, second leg of the playoffs. Finally bought my Dad a ticket after being a student. Great night.

2) Newcastle at home at Christmas the year we won 4-3

3) Cardiff against Preston.

Arsenal in the cup hardly gets a mention. Wolves away a few times including the cup run. Swindon second leg coming from behind (ohh err). Jay Jay at Spurs. Munich. Plovdiv. Any win against United. Has Leicester away first game even had 1 vote ? Pompey away to qualify for Europe - I was on holibobs can calls off 3 posters checking scores to make sure had qualified. Bristol Rovers on a Sunday.
The Nolan/Ricketts United game literally had everything you ever dreamed of as a Bolton fan. Although went corporate so missed out in some ways but got a few mates and more importantly my dad and his mate Stewart in, even a couple of blokes from our Bolton branch who I rang on Friday asking to speak to the biggest Bolton fans who worked there. They did not have tickets. It would probably have to be that one. But despite it have everything was it better than Liverpool in the cup ? Nolan’s winner in Plovdiv ? Reading ? Blackburn promotion ?

Just goes to prove the number of monumental games we have been involved in, after much thought I’m changing my mind and going to choose BWFC 3 Man U 0 it was just before Christmas and I was 14 my all time BWFC hero Frankie Worthy did the damage, the world seemed a nicer place and all the good folk in my family were alive and well. Take me back there please.

And even though we got dicked more often than not we saw some serious quality players that season - Ginola and Gullit we're two.

Some twat in the press claimed Ruud was racially abused - bollocks.

He ran the show and anyone who appreciates good players clapped him off - which was 100% of Burnden. Racist booing - bollocks.

Jonathan pierce, I think

Would have sworn that was at the Reebok rather than Burnden. Some hazy memory of Pierce getting Feeesh chants confushed with jeers.

Then I remembered its over 20 years ago, and I wept a little inside. And Gullit is nearly 60.

I came home with the usual, he arses about, school report

Was only about 6pm they agreed we would go

Yeah. I thought it was reebok too

Wolves at burnden in the play offs.. better atmosphere for 45 minutes before kick off then pretty much every other match I've been too during the game.

Hell of a shout.

Swindon semi the same season was special.

I thought it was the holdsworth 1-0 at Reebok the Gullit allegations

I think there are so many options because we haven't won anything in most people's lifetimes.I mean major trophies not  the 2nd tier, the Sherpa Van, Asia Trophy, Lancs Cup or Dunfermline and district sheild which we have won.If we could have scraped a 1-0 win v Middlesbrough in Cardiff that would have been the football day of our lives, end of discussion.

For me the highlight would have to be beating the country's biggest club away from home. We have done that 3 times since the early 1960s and i attended 2.I think the better one was 2002/03  because it was so unexpected after a shite away performance and thrashing at Fulham and the fact they were the best team in the country,So if i could relive one football day again it would involve going to work in the morning, catching the Travel Club bus on Manchester Rd to OT and watching that late Kevin Nolan winner.

I was in the Manny Rd North seats & that day Ruud Gullet gave a masterclass in how to pass a football  50 -60 yard passes, straight to the feet of whoever they were intended for. After a while the home support at Burnden applauded him every time he did it, even the Manny Rd North applauded.

Think two different matches here.

Your match probably gave rise to the appreciation at the subsequent reebok one.

I think the feeeesh chants (or similar) were the cause of the journo's error.

That statement makes any of your hooligan post null & void, proper lads were on the 10am train, in the pig & porcupine on deansgate and were escorted all over town arriving just as first goal went in. Fucking travel club FFS!
