Its appeasement, that's all it is, and more people will end up dying in the longer term if you essentially capitulate to agressors. These aren't peace deals in the slightest.

  • We’ve reached a point where folk are so entrenched in their support for trump that they’ll side with Putin if it means not losing face on the socials. Thats where we are now. its ok

  • That Vance is a bigger cunt than Trump

There’s been very little fanfare from the Ukranians the last couple of months.

Theyve generally been bullish.

Could mean nothing, but makes me wonder if the Russians are stating to get the upper hand. They have the numbers.

Bizarrely, it might not be the worst case - there may be a truce/ceasefire.

Suppose these spring offensives they keep talking about will be decisive.

Russia should be doing much better by now. They aren't making much progress at all.  Putin has already lost this war, it is now a matter of how long it continues and how any poor souls lose their lives.

For some time befoee the winter, there were fewer reports and stories from the front line.

I think it was deliberate, for security reasons.

Over recent months, mant Ukrainians have been here being trained, and no doubt elsewhere too.

Once the promised tanks start arriving and the weather improves, things will become a bit clearer.

It’s hard to know what to beleive unfortunately these days.

Russia just have way more soldiers. Shit ones, granted, but their mentality is still one of dogged determination and they don’t give a shit how many die.

Ukraine really need good weapons, but the west won’t have endless amounts to give.

I'm not so sure some of these Russians are so dogged. Reports of death squads shooting their own if they retreat.

Also reports of major drinking culture and non-typical behaviour of professional soldiers.

I reckon they are demoralised but have had the benefit of fortifying their positions over winter, which will make advances tough for Ukraine.

Well, ive found one

A tory mp i think i could vote for

No doubt she will have done something shit, but leave me in my ignorance

Was on with marr earlier, talking about this chap

https://www.expressandstar.com/news/uk-news/2023/04/17/uk-demands-release-of-british-russian-opposition-leader-jailed-in-moscow/

His wife while thanking the uk govt for its words, wanted the russkie scum sanctioned

Kearns was equally damning

There is virtually no "sanctioning" of Russian nuclear material (fuel).

A few European countries want to introduce one- particularly Germany, but the French and Hungarians say "non".

One of the drawbacks of sanctions- if they don't adversely affect all those applying them equally, then there is a problem.

Plays into Putin’s hands this.

Does this mean NATO is obliged to send troops to defend a brother nation?

Thats basically declaring war.

Id rather we didn’t

Only in principle

It'll be a long time before they become members, if they ever do

Ok

not sure how it all works. But as an announcement I’m sure it’s aimed squarely at Putin.

Dont mind us going being flat track bullies taking on blokes in dresses driving Toyota pick ups, bit less keen to see us going uk against the Russians

A state cannot join nato whilst it's at war. Perhaps a more complex set of rules in reality, but they won't be joining any time soon.

Exactly, I would say at least a decade post war at the earliest.

May well be.

Probably a lot sooner than it would have been, had Putin not invaded.

A seruously bad judgement call.
