FGR Away

Ten more games and they dont come any bigger than this one.

Two years ago I never ever thought we would ever been playing this village club but we are down here and we need to go out and win this.

Need a much better performance than the last two games but we have the players that can win there

No we don't. We win every game 1-0 between now and the end of the season and we go up as champions.  Now's not the time for trying to turn 1-0 wins into 3-0 ones.  The system works. Don't pi

Its called football history told through newspaper headlines could also go under remember when a football history if you cant find  it let me know and I will ask my son where he got it from it's a excellent book .

Cheers Cambridge white

Thanks for the reminder about the book! The wife bought it for me a few years back, but I put it away because we were having some redecorating done. Just found the book - my afternoon is taken care of!

Great minds just reading it myself

Maybe, just maybe, there aren't a lot of goals around full stop.

Over the last 10, we'd scored the most in the league at 1.6 per game. Only conceding 5 has been the key. If you don't conceded, you can't lose and you only need 1 goal to win.

As Dave pointed out, with a bit of luck/composure, we get 4 or 5 yesterday

It appears that you can’t have your own thoughts and opinions on the club you’ve supported since a child.

I’m not one to fall in line. I have my own mind.  YES we are in good form but there are things we should look to improve on

No one is saying flat out for 90 mins but herein lies the difference, City generally create a lot of opportunities, and we just don't. Most games the opposition keeper has very little to do.

Fair play to IE because he has mitigated this to a degree by making us harder to beat. And more often than not one goal has been enough in this latest run. But 8 out of the 11 wins have been by a single goal, so I see this as a clear risk, as does IE I suspect. A few dodgy refereeing decisions, an injury here or there and we may start going back the way.

But let's be honest, on the run we are on, we should have given someone a slapping by now, and some games we have been pretty fortunate to come away with a win. However, it is the 4th division so we should have enough continuing as we are and winning masks a lot.

Someone mentioned one nil to the Arsenal, and here is the contradiction for me, we talk like City and possession based football yet play like Arsenal. The rhetoric and what I watch each week are rarely in synch.

Some people take this as a criticism and get very sensitive, when all it really is is a fans opinion on how we may improve to achieve success. We all want the same thing but alternate thoughts on here get shouted down, it's becoming very woke.

If defending the team that has taken 35 points from the last 39 is 'woke' then so be it. Is it ok to say people complaining about being criticised are also snowflakes ?

Everyone single person on here would rather get to 80 minutes 3 up. But simply saying we need to play faster, push forward more, score more goals etc is not an argument. If for instance was ask Dapo to push forward more you have to accept that by definition we have less back and more vulnerable to attacks and more likely to concede.

The team is not above criticism I have mentioned before how frustrating I find our throw ins. Playing against us you can almost go all rugby and kick for touch. We also seem to give loads of free-kicks away 30/35 yards from goal , but seem more than competent defending them.

You mention a number of games where we have been lucky to win, not sure which ones you mean. Morecambe we had an unfair red card that cost us points but during this run not sure where the luck was ? Late winner v Barrow ? A couple of late penalty shouts which the ref got right. What is it that you think winning 'masks' ? We are all hoping we can do a Peterborough but the idea that any team in the world would start changing things given the run we are on is crazy. Be careful what you wish for, we may need to make changes if we lose personnel , we do not have a player that plays 10 in the same way as Sarce.
Take an example from yesterday's game Thomason went off script twice once was a decent shot, the other the ball across which gave them a decent break. We should not castigate the lad but it happened. I know you are not responsible for every comment on here but Ratchet Man said he wants from Lee going forward in terms of a goal threat ... let's ignore he scored in previous game but I do not want him to change anything , in fact would prefer him deeper with Williams compared to yesterday.
If we replicate our last 9 performances in next 9 we will win the league IMO, and I do mean performances not just results.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion. And FWIW, I agree, we still have room for improvement.

Correct. because the performance creates the result.

Of course you can and others can disagree.

The fact is that the run we are on proves we are scoring enough goals, people are just assuming one won't be enough. Bradford is the only game we have dropped points, but it took them throwing their keeper up top and an incredible strike.

Yesterday they demonstrated excellent game management and that is needed with where we are and with what we still have left to do, we can't play at incredible tempo for 90 minutes twice a week, not sure any team really can even in the prem. When we get a goal we rarely look like conceding, certainly yesterday,  so slow the tempo, save the players, keep the run going.

Would I like to see us score 2,3,4 goals? Absolutely, but winning is all that really matters. The criticism is unfounded and supported by the results. 1 goal will always be enough if you don't concede. And making significant changes to a system which has proved so successful is bonkers.

My main criticism for this team is our throw ins and corners, which are just plain shit.

Nobody’s suggesting we change the system Cambridge and nobody’s criticising. All I and a few others are saying is that at 1-0 you are always susceptible to conceding and throwing away valuable points, when the team is more than good enough to go and get a second to give a cushion. The Bradford game was a good example and the penalty not given against Walsall potentially another. We could and should have been well in front of both. Even Cambridge which was probably the best we’ve played all season could have been thrown away at the end after the slip by Gilks gave Cambridge renewed energy and had us hanging on. Imagine if we’d only been one up in that game which some on here keep claiming is enough. Nobody’s complaining about where we are just suggesting that before we go into defence mode, we get the game properly won. I don’t see how that’s a criticism, just an observation.

You absolutely can have your own thoughts and opinions on here but your opener yesterday, immediately after an 11th win in a 13 game unbeaten run was

Anybody else worried about the level of performance in recent weeks. Let’s be honest, today we were poor in possession and going forward. I’d like to see us put games to bed

You didn’t actually give an opinion you asked a question. (Despite not adding a question mark)

The fact many users don’t agree a team relying on a single goal is necessarily a poor performance is your issue here. Plenty on here are very much glass half full rather than half empty supporters. We’ve seen shit seasons and great seasons and everything between. This season looks like becoming a great season but it certainly didn’t commence as one. December and January would’ve generated a lot more posts agreeing with you.

@Whitesince63 quite!

And if we have a squad littered with players who should be playing at a higher level, as per quotes from virtually every opposition manager. Adding them to the best striker in the division, and a possession based philosophy; we should be able to punish teams more than we are.

Lets look at the last 13 games

By being more offensive the maximum extra points we could've gained is 4

Is it really worth the risk?

This might well be the highest points any bolton team has gathered from 13 consecutive games and thats why i believe any criticism is crackers

Smacks of evatt outers desperately looking for an angle

If John connects properly with that clear sight of goal and the Dapo penalty is given then we win 3-0 and it’s a romp. We look a threat and we’re winning games. Can’t say fairer than that.

If we are complaining about winning 11 out of 13 then god help us.

what do people want 5-0 wins every week ....

I’ve been an avid supporter of Evatt from day on, it was always clear that we would move in the right direction eventually

I’d just like to score more than one to settle the nerves to be honest..

Bear in mind 2 of the dropped points came in a game were comfortable in , bought attacking options on and dropped points. Due to a reffing mistake.
I have no problem saying we could do things different , but as you say this is a risk

People seem to be saying we go defensive but we don't really, look at the chance John had yesterday. Left back turning up on edge of penalty area.

So would everyone else. What others are saying is that if that happens great, but changing things comes with a risk.
You said yesterday you want more going fwad from Lee, he has been outstanding.

I certainly didn’t say that about Lee.

No-one is stopping you having an opinion. It's just most of us don't agree.

Apologies I mis read it you said 'excluding' I missed a word 👍
