His debut was against rochdale in the cup, i think

An absolute beast of an engine and a cracking goal

He scored a belter at home to millwall...we scored 4

Be nice to turn that video up

Is it true we signed him for £500 and a bag of balls or has my Granddad been winding me up for nearly 30 years

Not sure it was quite that much

But yeah

Hes on different planet to GT, imo, but similar strange story in that im pretty sure he was only in the reserves at Marine

That’s brilliant.

GT looks like he just wants to play football and nothing else, just like McAteer

McAteers debut was a cup game against Rochdale. He scored the first in a 4-0 win.  What a find he was.

When younger and higher education one of the fellow students was a former Bolton YTS player, he had some interesting tales.

McAteer is from a boxing family.

At the trial match he played with the YTS, his mum and family attended with a big banner saying “come on our Jase”

Stubbs and Macca were heroes to the kids. Macca had a mobile phone and let one of the scouse YTS kids use it, who rang his mum and said “mar, I’m on Macca’s phone!”

If he turns out to be half as good as McAteer was for us we've got a top player.

McAteer was probably the best midfielder outside the premier League when he played for us.

Loved him.

That, or a vcose approximation, is correct. Not a wind up.

The GMR commentator was Wilf McGuiness who announced that Bolton had unearthed a diamond who would have a great career ... after 90m watching him.

I was doing a talk to a group & McG was following me on. He remembered the game & his opinion 20 uears on.

Taylor was confident after the first leg saying whenever do you start a match 1-0 up. Greaves didn’t think we’d do it.  Fuck off Wolves 😉

I've never heard Scott Green speak before that

Randomly he's currently managing in Finland

More randomly before signing for us he had a spell there scoring 23 in 17

More random was us buying him for 50k

One of our biggest signings for years at the time, i think

Sure he came to us as a forward

His dad was a security guard at the building society I worked at.

Wolves second leg. Ilkley whites brother and sister in law big Wolves fans, they are top people and have had some great nights with them. They parked next to us on Raikes Lane, by time we got back they were already driving out, I ran next to their car 'waving', they  'waved' back, took his eyes off the road and drove into car in front of him, no obvious damage, sorted with a hand shake. Turned out they had damaged their radiator, got on M6 engine massively over heats and they are fucked. Had to ring up and join AA ( no mobile phone) so walked to a phone by mway, cost him a fortune and got home about 4 hours later. Apart from that and the game was not a bad day for him.

Seem to remember he played just about all over the park for us and ended up at right back. Did a pretty good job partnering McGinlay after Walker got injured in the first season under Rioch.

Scored twice against Swansea after Walker got stretchered off. Think David Lee got the other in a 3-1 win.

Scott Green was recommended to Phil Neil by Bob Paisley as Liverpool had scouted him and he was considered a ‘risk-free’ affordable versatile signing.

When he told Bruce Rioch his girlfriend was expecting twins they were living in a flat at the time.  Bruce loaned him £10k to go and put down on a house.  He spent it on a car!

When Bruce saw it he went ballistic at him and told him to take it back.

Told to me by the guy who used to look after the tunnel during matches at both Burnden Park and Reebok.

Green was unbelievable that night.

The next day I had to drive to London & passing Wokverhampron I bobbed into a papershop & bought the local rag. They were raving about him.

I drove back with a mate & on the M62, near the M6 junction after Birchwood, we passed several coachloads of desperately disappointed Wolves fans. At one stage my pal started getting a bit over excited & signalling to the coach occupants. Wild faces & waving arms appeared. Lots of pointing & snarling. Not pretty.

Thinking this was quite a jape ceased however as congestion brought all lanes to a halt. Some coaches behind us opened their doors & a couple of dozen Black Country hoolies came charging toward us.

I pulled into the hard shoulder & put a couple of hundred yards between us. Then others pulled out & followed me. I'd invented the 'Smart Motorway !!

Who threw the turnip from Manny Road at Taylor ?

Anyone remember Newcastle turning up on a Tuesday night with their latest signing David Ginola?

Greenie kept him right in his box!

The away day was a disaster.

It was nearly even more of a disaster when we walked into "that" pub and you knocked over one of the local skinheads drink.

:)

When I started doing my AAT exams Scott Green was on the course too. Mustve been around the time he was at Wigan.

He lasted about 3 weeks and dropped out.
