Who has a better one? That's the question. Which country has a better system than ours? I can't put it simpler.

When I'm back at work I'm going to do my own tracking down... I have a little list like the Lord High Executioner in the Mikado

Here's an IT snip I spotted today...

"NHS England has missed the latest deadline in the procurement of a £200m replacement ERP system responsible for managing the UK's annual health spending of £110bn and is now more than two years late.…"

A system over 2 years overdue, that'll be shit as well when it does arrive.

South Korea

Taiwan

Taiwan can track people, no fucker is going to argue. We can't, the tin foilers would have been out in force. We have to compare ourselves to "equal" countries, France, Germany etc. Have they done anything better than us? I have no idea.

See above. We can't nail people's doors shut and send them to a work camp if they don't comply.

Ill bow to your superior knowledge on this one, but you quote normal timescales

This isnt normal

Its money no object, so, in the same way the vaccines were developed quickly, i think its fair to assume we couldve shaved a fair few months/years off

Anyway, i couldve come up with a shit system for a lot less but probably couldnt have lined the pockets of hancock and dildo

It's the mythical man month. If it takes 1000 man months, a thousand people for a month, a hundred for 10 months, ok. You can't do it with a million people doing a hour each. It doesn't work that way, even if it's the same actual time spent.

Also, all the competent resources are being paid $$$ by online retail which has also boomed. The government hasn't got the staff, outsourcing costs a fortune, and these companies aren't necessarily the best.

With all that in mind, our Prime Minister still promised us a world beating track and trace system just over 12 months ago. The fibbing dollop of shit.

I'm not defending him, it sounds like a Trumpism. It looks massively overpriced and not world beating. But possibly it's played some part in getting on top of the thing, time will judge.

Got my first call from T&T a couple of hours ago. It was to check on my symptoms and I was behaving myself, made the mistake of telling him I had a snotty nose... it appears that is probably going to delay my release back into the wild from the 10 days, they'll only let me out with a cough or loss of smell.

Told him that I had not socialised, only worked and have a list of 12 suspects... he replied it was not his brief but he will flag it up to his manager and I should expect a call in the next day or two, answered it was a bit late now but I'll expect the call anyway (I've got bugger all else to do).

So far they have passed the Test bit but failed the Trace.

Yep.

Very different societies. Perfectly illustrated by people ignoring instructions to isolate, not using app, refusing vaccine etc.

Missus phoned them today with her positive lateral flow result.

They promised to send her a PCR if they can spare any because they are running out...

No its strangly permitted. It's all in the guidelines for testing while isolating.

The covid police weren't happy he went to a shop to buy a test

PCRs are fine even if isolating, the whole process is extremely cautious, one of the few times it actually felt like I was part of a serious pandemic like in a film or something

To be fair, he didn’t look up from his PC, which he was using to develop the T&T system to fob us off with, “It’s nearly ready. It’ll be world beating. It’s worth every penny.” He was told by the actual developers all of the above (and more) and isn’t in a position to call bullshit. He reports as he’s told, not as he knows to be fact.

BJ is in a shit position where his expert advisors, are up against a pandemic of proportions never seen in the computer age. Where every social media user is at least equal in opinion, if not expertise, as the scientists and software writers who have spent years honing their skill base.

Johnson is losing his vaccine bounce because the vaccines are obviously not working as well against the latest variants

I went to a dive through and as you said it was like a scene from an apocalypse film. What I did see was a car park with what must have been at lease twenty or so brand new unused transit vans all sign written "mobile testing unit"... after I hade to drive 20 odd miles to get there... the TC Harrison van salesman got a good sale out of it.

The covid police were amazed he was berating an old woman who got too close to him.

That "old woman" was tweed skirted pony club frequenting tory councillor type who pushed me out of the way as a silly little man and had no time for this mask wearing nonsense... I was in a Boots shop in Rutland... and she was buying cough mixture
