Same in my childhood like your favourite grandad, seemed lovely bloke. Sad news but thx for the childhood memories.

Local lad too. Born in Oldham.

Think Bernard Cribbins has had a few mentions in the RL thread previously, really nice bloke and always happy and ready to have a chat with anyone.

David Warner got skipped the other day, always thought he was a cracking actor regardless of the role.

Not forgetting his appearance in Fawlty Towers.

Loved his Wombles voice overs, Jackanory storytelling and I can still remember laughing out loud at his character in a film called Mouse on the Moon.

RIP Bernard and thank you x

Im guessing she was a rairty back in the day

How succesful were the original shows

Werent there only about 50 ever made

First ever kiss between a white man and a black woman on TV, was groundbreaking at the time.

Aye, it got cancelled, really low ratings and a quite select fan base. Was deemed too "deep" for viewers back then.

3rd series is pretty poor though, think they began to run out of idea's which is a bit ironic seen as there are at least 10 spin off shows and 12 (?) films

Watched the first episode of this which goes into the origins of the show - without Lucille Ball taking a punt on it with her Studios, it probably wouldn't have been made. It didn't do well with it's original run due to scheduling, but took off when it was syndicated.  Well worth a watch whether you are a fan or not  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15766736/

Apparently, the first was on an Australian show called "Emergency Ward 10", 2 years earlier.

Well, didn't know that - I guess it was the first on American TV which then became urban fact as the first ever!

Done a bit more digging.... It wasn't an Australian show, it was British! And that was actually the second televised interracial kiss - the first was on a Granada TV play called "You in Your Small Corner" in 1962!!

Edit: More lies!! The first was on an ITV show called "Hot Summer Night" in 1959!!!

Looks like one of those plays of the week - you can watch it for free; https://player.bfi.org.uk/free/film/watch-you-in-your-small-corner-1962-online

So its the first interracial kiss in space?

I loved the original series as a kid, always dreamt of having a phone/radio like they did, 30 years later everyone had one. Still waiting for a beam me up scotty being invented. Think that might be a while off yet.

It is if that plane you went to Ipswich on is anything to go by!
