On the bright side, M6 north of the M55 is wonderful.

  • Absolutely. I said at the time some bugger has done a cost analysis of deaths against movement of traffic and judged extra folk dying is a price worth paying. Fucking stinks.

  • Not in Crawley

20/20 but it was good to test them out.

been like this as long as I've been driving

used to drive down to kidsgrove on a regular basis back in 2000/01

19-17 either way was always a cunt

especially when Utd were at home midweek, and all the way up the 556 then 56 in manc

I remember before the M6 toll road was built that Birmingham M5 and M6 was absolutely fucking awful.

Now M6 Stafford up to Wigan is instead.

I hate the M6 and would rather take the train but since Avanti got the WCML franchise they are a lot more expensive than Virgin and seems like less advance cheap tickets.

Spent since 2012 regular traveling between here and Wolverhampton and Birmingham.
it’s a cunt of a road .
got so bad and fed up with it I regularly went the A41 and through Cheshire to Partington , over Warburton and up the Lancs rather than sit on it .
more miles but usually quicker and even if not, it was a much more pleasant journey.

Another 9 months of roadworks between J21a and J26 to come

Sure the cunts just make it up to keep dishing out contracts for kickbacks.

Lad over this way owns one of them cone putter outerer firms. Worth an absolute fortune.

His lads out all night putting cones out no reason whatsoever then dragging them all back in before daybreak whilst on double time.

Whats that for? Hopefully not for death trap 'smart motorways'?

RSS ? Know them

most of it isn’t done for no reason but you can get good money for what seems un needed for people just passing.
when I first started, cones were on hire at 80p per week each

we had tens of thousands out, just sitting there for years .
not quite the same now, jobs priced on type but still good money to be made, but despite its simple look when out, the lads do have to know what theyre doing and it can fucking dangerous job I can tell you with dicks on the road .

can be a piece of piss too depending on the job but it’s profitable if done right that’s for sure .

GTM?
lot of RSS lads from Blackpool went over to Balfour Beatty years ago. they’ve had Blackpool sewn up for years , when I was meeting council over there it was indirectly insisted  that RSS must do the TM as they know Blackpool so well, they do good bit all over in the local authorities & events scene, iron man and the like. Well regarded and a good outfit to be fair , but qualified ops can nearly name their price now and lots of competition and think they’re kind of limited to NW areas.

Thats them. Lad who defected had been with RSS for donkeys. God knows what went on there.

Good the council wanted to keep it local. Worth a few quid Carl but try getting his window dosh off him :D

Notice Cox dont much civils over here now? They were all over the fylde at one point, did all the stuff in town centre and prom stuff.

How many people sat on the M6 or on norther rail pre pandemic have contemplated going full falling down mode?

I fucking hated northern rail every day. Literally held on for about a year of wanting to walk just because I knew I was due some redundancy cash. Anyone doing Manchester from Bolton on trains before covid will relate. It was a joke.

Work from home now but do M6 a few times a month now. Set off at 6am so I can get on the m6 within an hour and I try and do M1 if I can because M6 is just as bad a joke as Northern rail was .

Couldn't do it daily. Fuck that.

More money / grass is greener / better options for progression or less hours and not on nights. Pick any one.
GTM part of Network Plus so opportunity for someone with their head screwed on and ambition to get into positions not necessarily available at relatively smaller outfits and they’re active recruiting as expanding all over.
not sure what’s happened with Cox , most my work is utility based, but have noticed there not even around Bolton now, Bethells seem to have won that.

Know the feeling, but I’ll tell you what’s more annoying than sitting in roadwork queues, is sitting in  queues you’ve caused yourself . You feel annoyed at the delay and your the cunt that’s caused it so can’t complain to anyone 😄

 is this survivors guilt from an M6 queue

Hope you are alright now! But I feel you pain.

Last one I had was a 9am truck fire. I went past at 4pm in Stafford after it being on the radio all say and they were just scooping bits of truck into a skip when I went past. One whole lane shut.

A full working day of the M6 being a car park.

Not guilty on the M6 recently but plenty other places.

once closed lanes on the Lancs, came home, got changed and took my lad to his match at Leigh sport’s village, went down the fucking lancs on auto pilot and got stuck in my own chaos. 😄

done it loads , must be a disorder that I just need to visit the scene as self punishment or something

That’s my regular drive. It’s been shite for years now.

I fucking hate the M6. Up to Jan 2020 I spent every week schlepping down to Wolverhampton and back again. I always always checked maps before setting off or srtting back. Sometimes used the A49, but quite often, if there was an accident it was quicker to go via another country. M56 Chester- Wrexham- Shrewsbury- M54

It's never really going to change unless some pretty bug societal changes happen. Can't see that being case, at least not for a very long time.

I used to drive down to and back from Worcester area every week.

First 2 years we used to set of at about 4:30 am to miss traffic. Then I started doing it in the evenings.

Options M5 - M42-M1 or M5 - M6 and across either south or North of Manc.

Must be 5 years ago but I still cringe whenever the traffic reports mention tailbacks on the route.

The early mornings would take 2-3 hours, the evening my worst ever was 8

Do once a week (most weeks) to London. Defo the shittest half of the journey. Last week got both Birmingham and Manchester traffic. Have found coming off at 19 is now a bit better than 21a with the bypass put in at Lymm

Totally, when I'm coming back home I'll only do the drive at night or very early morning, come off the toll road and it's just a nightmare from then on.

The amount of times the sat nav directs me up to Leeds and across because it's quicker. Plus, nicer drive.

Sounded like another fun. Gridlock round M55 for the 4th day in the past 6.

Knutsford fucked again as well.

I generally now avoid, as best I can, visiting customers in the North West, due to the roads - I can't for the life of me work out why they're so bad. People used to moan about the M25, but that's a picnic compared to the M6

Never had much bother on the M25 - north of Birmingham, nasty.
