Are you referring to specific demographics? Or a range of other things? 

What was London’s culture & identity before it was lost ?

I’ve always found it just too big a place. Only actually lived there a year. But I like going back, mostly.

My point is that all this is a lot of money. Do countries need to re-evaluate the Refugee Convention? With the climate crisis about to get a shit ton worse, maybe the days of being able to offer an asylum system are over. Of course we could still take some in directly like we did with Ukraine & Afghanistan. And if more countries were to pull out, some sort of foreign aid system could be put up in place. 
 

It’s a shame it’s only Reform talking about it. As they’ll just use it as opportunity to erode a whole load of Human Rights.

But I don’t remember hearing anything about life in prison for people smugglers & widespread use of undercover cops to catch them. Maybe I missed it.

Being tougher would help. But I’m not even claiming it would necessarily solve the issue. Which is why I said would it  be better to look at the 1951 Refugee Convention ? Maybe we need another referendum 😄

You don’t get it do you. You can give them as long a sentences as you like, the trade is to lucrative for it to just stop. See the drugs trade. People get 20-30 sentences all the time, guess what the drugs trade gets bigger. As for the undercover cops it’s probably already being used. Smashing the gangs isn't and won’t work.

It’s not point scoring, basically your ideas  are what the government are now trying to do….smashing the gangs…..it ain’t working, everyone can see that apart from you. You don’t have to be an “expert”

Good to see two police cars coming through Daubhill yesterday, with an immigration enforcement van behind them.

Whether they have managed to grip anyone, who knows, but at least they seem to be on the hunt.

Ties in with the new figures of arrests for illegal working. A big increase.

Unfortunately, the majority aren't being returned to their country. As ever, they apply for asylum etc and play the system.
