Your regular players might be off to play for Man U, or players like Shevchenko might be sick of the bench and give Bolton a go. I don't know if the player has to actually be there. Couldn't they agree on a contract over the phone, and agree a price with the club and lodge the documents before close of window?

It means they're a big club with friends in high places and if they don't get what they want they'll kick up a fuss. I agree with the decision though, if Mascherano wants to play football and he's not doing that for West Ham then regulations like this shouldn't get in the way of him doing what he's devoted his past few years training to do.

I doubt theres anyone who'd prefer to have Ben Haim run down his contract half heartedly instead of 2 or 3 million plus signing some average player to fill in.
