Evatt 3 years in

Let’s discuss.

For me:

We’ve progressed
He plays good football (when it works)

Makes good signings
A promotion on the CV with us
Wants to be around long term
Has played a big part in the feel good factor, more bums on seats etc
Is the sort of manager I want at BWFC
papa johns day out

We look rigid tactically and can’t adapt in certain good games
Trying to walk in he ball in
Talks about managing in the premier league when we just want to get out of L1
Stubborn
LB issue
squad has regressed since last summer
Big game management (outside of Sherpa van final)poor
1 shot on target in 2 games in our biggest for years

strange signings

Im incredibly undecided on him. It’s everything I wanted but something niggles at me it’s not right.

Evatt is ace. He's not the finished article but is improving and will end up a good manager for us.  Solid 8/10 so far but a big summer ahead. I back him to get it right.

Evatt is improving us year on year on a limited budget plus we have a well defined style that is good on the eye. He is doing all the things that our previous six managers failed to do and wer

Hes had nothing but progression in his whole managerial career. Think hes got every right to back himself.

Time will tell. Not enough for me yet. I’d rather we focus on getting out of this division. Nothing would please me more then you to bump this in a few years and put me in my place. I just don’t see it.

Plenty fans of other clubs don’t like him, I am sure they would take him off our hands given half a chance

Was a minimum to finish joint bottom in our history re Crawley and we made tough fist of that.

Accy game meh. That wasn’t big. I’d of not been arsed if we won or not.

Final hats off. No argument from me.

One shot on target in 2 games against nothing special in opposition. Are you throwing this in?

The play off is on the list

With the other biggest, no second chance games

Its on you to find some more to prove your point, surely?

IE as done an excellent job up to now but for me next season will be the test for him , fail to get us promoted then the doubters will have a field day !

After 3 seasons of progress i'm pleased that IE is signed up for another 3 years & believe we should honour that even when the difficult times come & the "sack the manager" whoppers pop up again.

I want continuity & Evatt has earned the right to be given time to build a team/squad for the longer term & not to be put under pressure after the odd bad result.....that includes giving signings the time to settle in, we're not recruiting ready made worldbeaters.

He's the right man for the job.

Were on the right path.

Given how far we have come in two years I don't think anyone should really criticise him.

We are living within our means, challenging at the top end of the league and winning trophies.

He's had way more wins than losses in the transfer market.

I like the fact he wants perfection. I like the way we play. He knows we need to improve , where we need to improve, he's honest and he doesn't bullshit in interviews.

Honestly can't wait to see how he shapes the squad this summer.

Ok 2nd chance games are rare and you have really narrowed this down.

Barnsley were there for the taking on Friday. We had on the ropes for 20 minutes and did not lay a glove on them. I consider Friday a massive failure in my opinion. As soon as we made the subs I felt as though we’d thrown the towel in.

It ended up at a point when we threw Jerome on and had 1 cm playing that the worst thing we could do was equalise as it would of been a brutal extra time.

Just answered Cheese as I saw this first. He defo has a whiff of arrogance that isn’t greatly backed up by performance. When we get things wrong it’s never his fault.

He wants to be a great manager.

Think of all the great managers you’ve known. Did they have a whiff of arrogance? Did they come out in the media and say they got things wrong?

Aye completely get that. Plenty have had that arrogance are/were a bit naff too, like one of our previous managers. Jury is still out for me.

I’m sure plenty of top managers have. I’ve not searched but it will have happened.

Get to the championship first would be a better sound bite.

What was the "etc" in your reply though? You only specified 1 reason for thinking Evatt is 'above his station', but stuck an "etc" on the end as though there were more? Or is that literally it?

Referencing we train like Real Madrid. He’s not referencing the facilities or statute of the club at this point which suggests it’s him and his coaching. His sound bites not backed up sound daft.

Im not suggesting I’m anti but I find the siege mentality blindness to his errors as odd.

Liked is interview after Fridays game, “ wish we could go again tomorrow “. 18+k average attendances couldn’t see that happening two years ago

Another example was saying he thought Bolton were the best team in the division and then  lost the next match 4-0 at home to Wigan.

The result was no disgrace because Wigan had a team of better players on bigger wages but don't say  such a silly thing in the first place

Gees dragging stuff up from 3 years ago!

I doubt he was being literal.

Anyway he shortly took us on a fantastic run after that and got that training pitch mentality and the right players in to get us promotion - performance to back it up is what you were after, well he delivered then and he Is now.

I said previously he’s not bullet proof from criticism. His youthfulness, ambition, inexperience has got him into fixes - but the evidence suggests he’s learning and getting better.

Those odd media gaffs in the first 18 months have certainly lessened, I can’t remember any this season?

Edited by desperado

It’s been two steps forward, one step back, and repeat

He gets more right than wrong. I’ll take it for now

Next season is a big one. I’m guessing we’ll start as one of the favourites and the January transfers were a massive step back. Now he has to replace Traff and Bradley as a starter. Big test for him

He is arrogant, he chats shit and is stubborn. But so was Big Sam and so are a lot of good managers. I think it's possible that in the future he Nathan Jones's himself - gets a big job, says some daft things in press conferences and becomes a laughing stock.

But for us, I'm very happy with the job he's doing. I'm enjoying the stability of an ownership, manager and fans all on the same page and moving in the right direction.

I think promotion is too high a bar for next season, with so many variables. As long as we're up there and competing I'll be happy.
