I've been called up 4 times, my Father-In-Law has been called up at least twice that I know of, one of my work colleagues has been called up 3 times. I do know plenty of people who have never been called up Anyway, for those who've never done it, it's dull as fuck, as normally you're sat around doing fuck all, and potentially losing money, if your work won't top your wage up I also decided, on my last time, that it's a farce. The case was an Uncle who had nonced his 3 nieces over a few years, he'd definitely done something to the younger one and the middle one. A load of shit was spouted by the defence, as they decided to over egg the story, the eldest girl told so many lies it was untrue. Anyway, after a couple of weeks of listening to both sides, we were instructed by the judge to find the defendant "not guilty" on all 14 counts......even though we know he was guilty of at least half of them. The general gist, I think, was that the lies told were so easy to pull apart that any subsequent retrial, would have seen it thrown out of court, and it wasn't in the public interest to carry on. The seedy looking defendant laughed when told he was free to go...... Never been called but my mum has She had one trial with a young lad, think he was a law student, touching up kids in the pool at the water place Group of girls made complaints and in their evidence it was clear two or so were telling the truth but the others were just making it up and jumping on the bandwagon Found him guilty, don't know what he got but certainly career over
August 21, 20232 yr Never been called but I do like driving past the magistrates court at the top of the road on a Monday morning, some of the sights going in dressed up in their 'best' is something to behold.

I've had a look at employment within the service and that of the prison service too. Difficult to get comparable information because of changes to structure and names of the service, however from what I can see there are more full time employees in it now, than in 2009. I picked that year as its when the numbers started dropping. Structural changes helped bring in folk from private sector. There are also many more lawyers/legal people. Obviously there is a covid backlog to work through, but what is your experience from talking to folk? From my brothers point of view, he reckoned some colleagues were lazy and not "connected" to the role, as well as there being a large workload. Are more people being brought before the courts too? Another potential bottomless pit for cash it seems. I'm thankfully long out of there now but people I know still working there say its as bad as ever, not enough staff, not enough judges. Pay is absolute shite as well the lowest in the civil service for the admin grades yet some of the most difficult conditions to work in. Everywhere is just full of temporary agency staff replacing people who've worked there for donkeys years and it's pot luck whether they're any good or not.

The continued use of agency staff continually leaves my scratching my head. Never sure that it is cost effective. Symptomatic of a badly managed set up all too frequently found in the public sector. Dunno what wages are/we're like, our kid never said, but he liked the work. He felt a lack of professionalism amongst some spoiled it though. Nothing wrong with good wages for such workers, but reasonable to expect a good level of performance too. Some of the shit they witness and have to deal with, perhaps requires a certain character to cope with and rewarding such should be paramount.
August 21, 20232 yr A lot of my family on the missus side work in the courts in Leeds. Am thinking about doing it on a part-time basis. Bet you meet some right twats. (Do not mean her family btw ! ) Edited August 21, 20232 yr by Ani

I work in planning and do contract stuff for local authorities, mainly in London There's a massive shortage of us and so it can be a nice little earner though I'll always do my work to the best as that's what I do plus I know that whilst London is big, in job terms it's not and people talk behind the scenes. Do a shit job and take the piss, they'll know One thing I have noticed is how much it's increased across the country when it just really used to be a London thing Got offered one in Gateshead and fully remote. Didn't bother as I hate working at home. Not sure how much it costs a council but it's more to pay contractors but problem is the shortage of people who want to commit to a permanent role
August 21, 20232 yr Welled up today listening the news, hope's she rots in hell the sadistic bastard.

The attempted murders relate to six babies, as several charges apply to some of the infants. She was found not guilty of two charges of attempted murder. The jury was unable to reach verdicts on six further charges of attempted murder, which related to five babies. The Crown Prosecution Service is considering whether to seek a retrial on those charges.

Lost count of the number of times you'd train an agency bod up only for them to leave after 4 or 6 weeks when they'd found a permanent job it was pointless. Mind you some of the permanent staff were shit as well, get what you pay for I suppose. There was no specialist support or training or even warning for what you'd see and hear in court, it was as if the clerks/ushers kind of slipped through the net of those kinds of considerations. On the topic of Letby, she wants fucking torturing. Those poor families, may never get an answer to the question why as well.
