In these times of 'diversity and inclusion', it's rather worrying that flatdick women's football seems to have vacated the top table on WWays.

It can have its attractions tha knows.

 

Slagging off the women's game as if it's a crime and not worth the attention. Is like slagging off all other types of mens football because it's not of Premier League "standard".

We're laughed at and regarded as women's football by plenty of glory hunting, deluded bigots.

All the ex footballer female pundits are as full of cliches as the men. Not hugely insightful. As others have said I don't mind Emma Hayes.

I would say that I think the best commentator on football in this country just now is Robyn Cowen. She's a throwback to the 70s and 80s. Doesn't rabbit too much, doesn't get carried away. None of the matey, chummy nonsense you get from commentators these days, no contrived pre-prepared lines and no constant delivery of meaningless statistics.

Imagine being such a famous ex-footballer that your opinion on all things related to football absolutely have to include liking anything to do with women’s inclusion. (Or not having an opinion at all)

I do agree that one or two of the women football commentators don't half screech (tend not to know their names) but that doesn't necessarily mean their input is wank. Just technique.

Its also whether they're blessed with a "commentator's voice".  With the passing of Franny Lee we got to see/hear that famous goal "Interesting....very interesting" etc, absolute class commentary by Barry Davies, but if Phil Brown or Harry Kane had delivered it, they would have sounded very wierd.  

Its a strange one because the commentators (and radio DJs etc) are all professionals with years of training behind them, learning what to say when and how to deliver it, so respect to them all.  But if Jackie Oatley or Jonathan Pearce are delivering it, I don't particularly want to listen, it grates.  

David Coleman could commentate on chess and it would sound like the most unmissable sporting event of the year.

But he made his name on capital radio by being dead shouty and "passionate" 

Then got a job at the BBC where they presumably told him to tone it down 

And now he's just bang average

He was the original male presenter of womens football when it first got to be televised I think. Maybe the top males thought it would never catch on.

Some of the co-commentary leaves a bit to be desired, and in general, I reckon they're worse than the commentators. 

Often state the bleeding obvious/repeat what the commentator has just said.

Funny you should say that, I was having that thought watching some championship highlights on Sky.  In a weaker moment, I watched the 15 minute highlights of the championship games that Sky show (in my defence, I didn't know any results).  Every commentator was an identikit - "they are in all sorts of trouble", "they buckled under intense pressure", "he'll be disappointed with that", "what an advert for the championship" etc etc, all delivered in exaggerated excitement, failing to disguise their disinterest and boredom with what they're being paid to watch.

Listening to Coleman commentating on an FA Cup final in the 70s or the Olympics in the 80s still gives me goosebumps.

Having binned of sky a few years ago I've not seen many live games since and even then I never watched the before and after stuff. Only time I come close to listening to pundits is MoTD as that's pretty much the only footy I watch on telly these days.

I actually like Micha Richards as he seems genuinely like he's loving life. Much rather him than some of the right miserable cunts who seem to hate that they get paid to watch football like Lawrenson.

Micha, Shearer and Lineker (and Ian Wright) have a good camaraderie and that for me makes the best highlights show. Kammy and Ben Shepherd on Sky was always a good watch for the same reason especially when their guest was a decent sort.

MoTD 2 always seems a bit wooden when the B team pundits get involved 

Motd is a decent show. 

Still think there is a little too much chat and they could show a bit more football, but some interesting little bits of analysis nonetheless.

The European goal show boys are the best about.

With Ally it comes back to the 'decent sort, enjoys the job and knows their stuff' formula that you want in any co-commentators in any sport.

It's a simple formula but often is missing.
