When my kids were junior footballers, their coaches always had them train outside in the cold. At weekends, when it was just as cold, they already knew the faster they ran, the warmer they’d get. Meanwhile, their opponents stood there shivering. Happy days of junior football.

Unfortunately, the ground will take some time to defrost. The ground staff will know that, and a Friday assessment should give them an idea of how likely it is to be playable come 3.00pm Saturday. What sunshine we are having at the moment comes from a low angle too, so shade from stands can be an issue too.

My phone registered minus 7 at half four this morning. Not got above 2 today. Will be warmer down there, but it could be touch and go.

January 18, 20242 yr It's been bastard freezing down here No snow just frozen ground and temp hasn't gone above zero Might be different there but if the flats block out light, could end up with one end not defrosting Wasn't that what happened at Southend?
January 18, 20242 yr Author Got the straw out and hot air blowers. Anything just to get this bloody game to go ahead.
